Help me solve IRQ conflicts!

I have an Asus A7V and am getting IRQ conflicts with my 3 PCI cards. I have a PCI video card, sound card, and modem. They are all non-brand name cards. What is the ideal arrangement of the 3 cards in terms of PCI slots? Also, if I swiched to an AGP video card would that help at all? Note that this is not a gaming machine, just for web browsing, word processing, music playing, etc. Thanks!

Sorry, forgot the info. The mobo revision is 1.01. The OS is XP. I don't have the sound card in right now, because I can't go online if I have it plugged in (dialing causes the system to crash). According to the Device Manager, IRQ 9 has the modem, as well as the Promise IDE controller and the USB Universal Host Controller. I don't see my graphics card listed for some reason. Please tell me what other info to look for and where to look for if you need it.

if you are on XP, I would worry too much about how you arrange your PCI card.

Except leave PCI-1 open so your vid card can "breath" easier. (they share irq under hardware management if run w/ 98 or win2k)
If I remember correctly, the Promise RAID share IRQ w/ PCI 3 on that mobo. (although, it really shouldn't matter w/ XP) I will leave it open.

Of course, PCI 4 and PCI 5 will definitely sharing IRQ w/ onboard w/ USB. (if you are running Win98 or Win2k)

IRQ sharing is normal in a modern OS like Win2k or XP. Its how resources are handled in all modern systems.

Unless you are experiencing problems you can directly link with IRQ sharing its best you just leave it alone.

video card on PCI 1- definitely.
Modem on PCI 4 or 5. (5 seems to be nice spot)
Sound card on PCI 2 or PCI 3. ( try unplug the HD, and see the BIOS screen to varified if Promise is NOT sharing with either PCI 2 or PCI 3 - again, it shouldn't matter w/ winxp, but I am just "axxxl"..😉 )

ps. disable any device you are not using in the BIOS, such as AC97 modem, AC97 sound, Serial port..so on and so forth.

pps. Depending on motherboard. WinXP may put everything in one IRQ in some mobo and manage itself. (under device manager, FIC KT133A mobo for example) But newer mobo WinXP able to divided them into its own IRQ. (Abit BD7)
