hey all,
I just purchased a 61" samsung DLP model HLR-6167W
I have a p4 3.0 ghz 1gig ddr2 new raptor drive with a clean install of winxp pro, ATI X700 pciE 256mb video card with the latest omega drivers...

I have the T.V. hooked up to the cpu by VGA, there is a HDMI input on the T.V. but I'm not using it right now...

My question is how do I setup the resolution to look the best?
I have heard of powerstrip software to configure the resolution but when I used it, it didn't seem to help anything...

The text on the T.V. looks ok towards the top half of the T.V. but the bottom half is all blurry and text is horrible to read on the task bar...

There are so many options on the T.V. menu and then on the computer side, I don't even know where to begin...
Can someone help me out...?

Is the X700 pro a good enough card to drive a 61" T.V.?
Would it be better to get a DVI to HDMI cable and use the HDMI input on the T.V. instead of running a VGA cable ?

Have you played around with your TV's aspect ratio settings? Also, you may want to try another VGA cable, just to take that variable out of the loop.

When I had my laptop hooked to my DLP, I used the vga with the omega drivers. It was the 9000 mobile chipset and it drove 2d graphics fine for internet browsing. I think you'll be fine using the vga, that is what it's there for. If you're using a media center pc, make sure your using the media center drivers, they do have options for 720p and 1080i. Is the 6167 720p or 1080p? If it's the newer 1080p, use the 1080i setting and it should scale appropriately.

Its the 720p model, not the newer 1080p...

I play around with powerstrip but get no better quality, I am going to go get a DVI to HDMI cable today and test that out...

Do yourself a favor..... get rid of that card. Go pickup a 6600, 6600gt, 6800NU, 6800gt, 6800ultra. Here is how simple it was for me.

1) Insert my 6800GT Card to HTPC
2) Power HTPC
3) Installed latest Nvidia Drivers, reboot.
4) Right click on my desktop, select HDTV
5) Select HDTV Overscan compenstation
6) Adjust by moving the sliders
7) Click on "Remember Settings"
8) Enjoy

Now I play HL2, Doom3, FarCry, Rome Total War on my 55" RCA Scenium DLP with HD2+ Chip!!!! :)

Love It!

BTW: I used to use a 6600GT and it worked the same, but I upgraded to the 6800GT since I wanted to game on my HDTV. I also used a DVI > HDMI cable. Give a better image. My RCA has an HDMI input. I assume yours does too.

Also, I hated Powerstrip, thats why I ditched ATI and went for Nvidia. Its VERY VERY VERY HDTV friendly.

Whats your TV's Native Resolution?

1080i or 720p?

Make sure to set your vid card to its native resolution for the best PQ.

well I don't have a nvidia card, maybe that will be my next upgrade, but for now...

I got a cheap ($30) DVI to HDMI cable and it made a world of difference just plugging the new cable in... the blurry part of the screen at the bottom of the T.V. that I was complaining about before is all but completely gone....

I still need to tweak the settings a little with powerstrip but I think its much better now, I am going to go check out the AVS forums....
