Help me setup my H/K TC 1000 remote...

Hello, I just got my Harmon Kardon Microsoft Take Control 1000 remote. I got it off ebay for 45 bucks. It didn't come with a cable for my comp so I tried programming it with the codes. Apparently none of my codes are in the remote's database (even my HK receiver!). So then I tried making it learn my codes, none of the codes worked after that. I did get the dvd player to work with some of the codes however. If I get the comp cable, will it solve my problem? What if I upgrade the firmware? Thanks
