Somehow this program got installed on my pc and it uses all of my cpu, I never installed this thing at all. I go to end task it won't, if I go to control panel to add/remove progs and remove it it turns it off, but starts again when I reboot. I can't find the damn thing, how can I remove it? I am on win2k.

I think since your team seti guy you should tell me where in the fk this thing hides on my pc since I want it off. I don't want to have my cpu leeched off of without my consent.

Anyone know anything about this thing that can help me find the files I need to remove? Obviously I did not install this to a folder on my own, somehow it installed itself onto my pc. I don't give a shat about contacting the mothership with my pc or whatever the hell these people are doing...

A specific filename or something I can search for? I can not find anything...

AFAIK that's not possible, you have to download and install the program by yourself. I have NEVER heard of Seti@Home installing itself on anyone's computer. It's a legimate program, not Gator or other spyware crap.

I assume you have checked "Add/Remove Programs" from Control Panel? The default folder IIRC is /Program Files/Seti@Home, check that too. Your last option is to search for "seti" from your harddrive and from Registry (although I don't know if Seti@Home even writes anything into reg). If you still can't find it call a priest to perform exorcism on your computer.

It wasn't in program files, I found the .exe's in WINNT folder...

I'm sure I didn't ever install this thing, seems fishy too that when I go to control panel to remove programs it just pops up a little window saying shutting down program but doesn't remove it.

Anyway, I found the files and axed em. thanks.

Yes it's possible. Retard wants more wu's, retard writes virus/trojan like seti installer, retard infects users, badabing badabang.

SETI sucks either way...

go to "start|"
go to search
type in seti
delete all seti files etc.
reboot

]restart in f8 "safe mode"

run scan disk/defrag
reboot

good luck, sorry someone installed seti@home without your allowing it,
or if you are not the original owner of the pc/hard drive, maybe the previous owner did.

This is reminiscent of a virus my friend got hit with a while ago. The only thing it did was install mIRC on his system and cause it to run at startup. Not connect, just run and show the connection options dialogue. He uninstalled mIRC 8 or 9 times and it just kept coming back before he finally got a responce to his rather angry e-mail to mIRC help, saying that this was a virus. Can't remember how he got rid of it.

You aren't going to get a lot of help if you insist on being a 'tard about it.

You seem to think that one of us put it on your box.

He's not being a tard, people are just oversensitive about DC topics. There are definitely viruses out there that install SETI on your computer, just like there were people that were trying to manipulate their stats in SETI. Regardless, someone installed it on his computer and he wanted to get it off.

The "tards" are the people who arent being helpful. Not everyone loves SETI, get over it.

Is seti installed as a service? if so you can disable it from admintools>services
And next time you ask a question don't be a jerkoff just because you don't know your way around windows.
