Help me set up a ht system

Just got a new denon receiverthat supports 4k 60fps for when these movies finally exist. A friend gave me her old 5.0 speaker setup thats missing a surround which i will need to buy a new pair. Im in asia so its a chinese brand and the sound so far is ok with just the front and center hooked up. But I have the upgrade bug and hopefully can get some advice. I ordered a svs pb1000 as it was highly recommended.

So here are some questions
1. My avr is rated at 6-16ohm but the fronts are all 4 ohm. It seems that as long as I dont push the avr too hard this shouldnt be a problem. Dont know if thats correct?
2.Since the sub can handle all the lows really well and will most likely be overkill unless I want my neighbors to complain do i need high end towers?

Any thoughts appreciated

Danon k4 avr with 4ohm output? are you sure? what's the model?

No you do not need towers unless you really want them, but definitely look for 2-way speakers with atleast 5" driver. klipsch or Polk are decent brands to look at, since you are svs subwoofer, I am guessing you are willing to go for some good overall speaker setup... Are all brands available you?

you should not have an issue running the speakers,

you don't need high-end anything, it all depends on what you want/what your goals are

seeing that you can get SVS over there look at their speakers
great sound for $ spent

unfortunately i can only get svs subs here but most other brands are available if your willing to pay the import cost and mark up on it. I appreciate the advice, i will first try out the sub and see if anything else needs improvement. If my thinking is correct then most speakers have a hard time with the deep lows and dont really have a prob with mids and highs. So it very well might be that I have a good enough system for me.

Using 4ohms speakers with a receiver rated to 6 ohms won't be a problem. When speakers are deemed 4ohm it just means that's just a nominal number. Their actual impedance changes with frequency.

You cannot contain real subwoofer frequencies unless you live inside a subwoofer enclosure or can levitate your room from your neighbors. Since you are concerned about your neighbors just forget about the sub. I'd focus myself on maximizing what you have via speaker placement, controlling primary room reflection (putting cloth in flat solid areas to the side of the speakers), and tweaking your speaker.

Most mass market HT speaker's cabinets are sadly plastic and hollow. Take it apart. Line the flat weak sides with dynamat, ensure a tight seal where the speaker is mounted to the front face to separate the front and the back using blu-tak or picture mounting putty and stuff the enclosure with fiberfill. If it has a bass port, stuff it with cloth, it's just a decoration for small HT plastic speakers.

Haha I said the same thing when I first heard of SVS making satellites. But I'm happy with my Klipsch Quintets.

But I did get the SVS PB-1000 to go with them and I have to say I never knew what I've been missing. This is one great sub and excellent tech support.
