I was ripping a DVD yesterday and got an error. Ever since it has been reading real slow. Thanks to AluminumStudios in another thread he helped me determine that my drive is running in PIO mode instead of Ultra DMA mode 2. The transfer mode in the device manager for this device is set to use DMA mode when availible but it remains at PIO mode so it is reading at 1X. I moved it to the other IDE cable and it comes up in the DMA mode just fine but I do not want it on the same IDE channel as my hard drive. I put it back on the other IDE cable and it goes back into the PIO mode. Can I just delete my Secondary IDE in my device manager and let it reinstall it upon reboot? You think that would help?

WinXP btw.

My Cendyne A05 has been ripping at max 2x, someone mentioned that i should make sure it's in DMA mode. How do i go about doing that??

The only thing i see under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in device manager is: NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) IDE Controller.

And there are no options for DMA

that's as fast as Pioneer has allowed(some perps are trying work up a firmware hack...google for more on that..;) )
in your Device Manager under Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>DevManager>IDE controllers(Properties or dbl click the one you wish to check)..Settings

I just checked mine, and on my 2nd IDE channel I have an Aopen slotload dvd and a liteon 40x cd-r as the slave. As Device 0 it says use use DMA when available but the current transfer mode is greyed out and unchangable and it says PIO mode. The liteone says PIO for both. How do i make it so my dvd uses DMA to transfer? Thanks

Man you must be going in slow motion. I'm going to try to delete my secondary IDE in a little while and reboot and let it reinstall the IDE and see if that fixes mine.

Actually you can delete and say 'No' to the reboot and pwr down and bootup when you are ready..if you can do without the devices on the controller til then ;)

I'm burning a DVD at the moment and my DVD burner is on the same IDE as my DVD ROM. 10 minutes to go on the burn.

Deleting my Secondary IDE and letting it reinstall fixed it! I though that my DVD burner was on Ultra DMA mode5 before. It is on mode 2 now. Anyone know if mode 2 is correct for a DVD burner?

I deleted, rebooted and i guess the dvd and cdr reinstalled, but now under my secondary IDE tab i can't view information for either of them, the tab that had the DMA and PIO stuff isnt there anymore. They seem to work fine though, what happened and how do i set the dvd to DMA mode now?

Also, what is ultra DMA and the numbers having to do with the mode? Thanks

I'm using win2k

It should be ultra DMA mode2 which is ATA33 I believe.

I deleted the whole secondary IDE, then after i rebooted, some stuff flashed up about detecting the drives and that was it.

I had same problem. I uninstalled IAA (intel application accelerator) and it made mine work again.

poncherelli2 you really need to start your own thread and try to list your configuration ..your problem is similar but an nVidia mobo and an Intel are different .. gl :)
