Hey, I'm not exactly new in terms of being at the forum, but I've been lurking the past three years (before I even signed up).

But anyways, I jsut wanted to have this little poll, because this isn't a car forum and there would be little biasedness.

Here are the three cars that I plan to buy one of:

2000-2002 Corvette Coupe
2000 BMW 540i with sport package and fully loaded
2004 F-150 Crew Cab, pretty much barebones.

They're all the around the same price, and are have less then 30k mi.

Which one would you choose and why?

Thanks to whomever.

Uh... I have no idea. This is like comparing an apple, an orange, and a kumquat.

It depends upon what kind of utility you are looking for. If you drive yourself all the time, get the Corvette. If you have family, go with the BMW. If you haul stuff, get the Ford.

Oh, I'm 18 and will be a freshman in college as of this fall. I haul my computers around a lot. And an occasional (g)friend.

All these cars can hold everything I need. I figure a truck might be useful every once in awhile when I need to move something big.

You're cross shopping some awfully different vehicles there. Without knowing what the intended purpose is for the vehicle you want to buy, people are just gonna vote on whatever their preference is - although they'd probably do that regardless. :p

It's more like comparing apples, rain water and largish meteorites.

That being said, I am a fan of largish meteorites and would pick the 5 easily.

I have a feeling all of those would be murderous insurance-wise for an 18 year old college freshman. But with that info in mind, I guess I'd say the BMW.

I'd go for the BMW 540i I guess. Trying to haul around computers (I do LAN parties often myself) in a somewhat cramped sports car isn't so much fun sometimes...:p

I wish I could afford a 540i as a college freshmen. Even a used one.

How much mileage is on the 2 used cars?

All these cars will cost me around $800/6mo except the F-150 which will cost me less.

GTaudiophile, by maintenance do you mean oils, filters, fluids? Because I will be doing those myself.

Or are you talking about something breaking down.

They all are used, and the 540i has 28k mi on it. It is a 2000.

Guys, I might add that I'm purchasing tonight if something falls through definitly Sat. I need a car before Mon.

Yeah I was gonna say the C5 would be really horrible for insurance, but then I'm not sure how much better a 540i would be. With that said though, if you plan on hauling people and gear I'd lean towards the BMW.

I've seen cars get really roughed up after a few years of the college life. Might be something else to consider, depending on where you'll be living.

thats really low mileage for 2000. I say get the 540i. Its the most pimp of the 3 choices and also gives you enough room should you ever need it.

There is only a $10 difference in insurance cost for either car. The IRG for the vette is near 1/3 less then BMW, it's just that the vette is a sports car, and I am young.

Need more info. What are you going to be using the car for? If your foresee lots of utility needs, the F-150. If you want something fast sporty, and only has 2 seats, its the vette. If your looking to hold 4 adults comfortably, have a decent overall sport feel then its the Beamer. Personally, I would want the Vette. I don't need room for 4 adults, just me and the sexay thing next to me. I like the LS1, and its power. Its all in what you need, as much as what you may want.

Screw it though, I'm voting Vette

the vette...hella fun to drive and be seen in, but those computers and stuff won't be much fun to get in and out of the car. I had a buddy who owned a 2002 vette with the 6 speed manual. On a 1500mile round trip on the interstate, he averaged 30.1MPG (I assume he was babying it, but it gives you an idea what's possible). negatives will be insurance, obviously.

The ford...After driving pickups, I don't understand why anyone would want one as a primary vehicle. Sure you can haul all kinds of sh!t, but they are lofty to drive and get crappy mileage.

The BMW...fvck that, high insurance, insane maintenance, guessing mileage ain't too pretty, and god forbid something goes bad
