Help me secure my computer

Got some crap on my computer the other day. I kept getting a popup from Norton saying they blocked an intrusion attempt or something from **************. I though well Norton must of stopped it so I'm okay. Couple hours later i get the same popup. Next step i restored my computer from windows 7 system image from a image I made a month ago. Still the same popup saying hijack attempt! Then I rebooted my computer and on the reboot the virus disabled Norton completely. Time for a clean install at this point. Well I tried running DBan and it would not work. Said error from nonfatal errors? Newest version couldn't find some files it needed. Oh well best I could do was a new install OS and wipe the free space of drive C. After wiping the free space I did another clean install on same drive. I figure every piece of data had been overwritten at that point. So far (2 days of use) it seems to have worked.

I have Norton internet security, I keep windows up to date, I run secunia to make sure all programs up to date, I use firefox w/adblock and use noscript half the time. I don't know for sure my router firewall is 100% secure. Is there a website that will check it for vulnerabilities? I don't know how to check it. I don't torrent, don't download suspicious files, don't open emails from unknown sources. I use my computer for banking, pc games, basic stuff and I also only visit legit websites no porn. It's got me baffled as careful as I am that I got hit by a virus. I read somewhere a very knowledgable guy suggested using a live Linux cd to do your banking online. Is that what it's coming to? Any tips or flaws you see in my security is appreciated.

Wow that's weird it *** the website name that was trying to hijack my computer. I guess it's a known bad site or something. Sorry I didn't know just typing website name might make a link to it or something.
