Help me save a streaming *.mov file to disk

Hey, all. I need your help capturing a streaming Quicktime movie....

Any suggestions? Streambox doesn't work, so you can forget that. And I'm not buying Quicktime Pro, either. Is there any free software other than Streambox that will help me capture streaming *.mov files?

EDIT: I think the file is saved somewhere on my hard disk as a temporary file, but I can't identify it. Does anyone know where in Windows XP Quicktime caches video?

that looks like it's the direct link. you should be able to right click and save-as to wherever you want (can't verify for myself b/c clicking on it takes me to a log in page)

Right-click/save-as doesn't work, either. I think I need some sort of stream capture software. Ordinarily I'd use Streambox, but for some reason it isn't working with this particular file.

when you right click and save as, what do you get? does any file get downloaded? if it's a small file can you send it?

It's just a small file, yes. Less than 1KB.

you have to log in first before you can access that file. It should probably be in your cache try looking for *.mov

Firefox should allow you to save the media once it's finished.

If not, get mplayer-win32 and use it with the -dumpstream switch to capture the stream...

I read VMrecorder is good (on tv4all.com)
I did use the search function once for PBS documentaries (after viewing them). I right-clicked on the file and saved to "My Documents". I also re-named the files so I knew what they were.

I'm having issues with capturing some video streams too from noggin.com so my kids can watch them at their leisure.
Specifically the videos found at: http://www.noggin.com/shows/movemusic.php
trick is they seem to be .asx files that pop up in java window...

I've got all the .asx files but cant get the actual video itself

It's a Quicktime "reference" file, or something like that. Open it with notepad and paste it here. I'll tell you how to download the actual Quicktime movie. Asx is the same time of thing.
