help me remember this movie

I'm trying to remember the name of this movie I liked as a kid. The plot involved some guy who was exposed to material from an alien planet when a satellite carrying a sample of it crashed on earth. The guy was exposed to it trying to rescue people hurt when it crashed or something. The exposure gave him instant healing/invulnerability powers, except if he was subjected to a dark environment he would become weak or die. And handheld laser pistols were somehow involved. That's all I remember. It may have been a Disney movie.

It was a (possibly Disney) made for TV movie...straining to remember the name of it now...in the end his kids or something got exposed to I think...
