my dad has this computer at work, that he wants to wipe clean and install winxp on. its some old dell. right now, it has winNT on it.

he has a windows xp upgrade disk, not a normal one. so, i told him to boot from the disk, and then have windows setup format the HD and install windows. he tried that, but the stupid dell didnt have an option for switching the boot order or even a bios for that matter. so, we booted up and ran the disk in windows, but it wouldnt let us select where to install it. i was going to put it on the d: partition, and then boot into winxp and format the c: drive. then, we found out that there was actually 2 10gb hard drives, not 1 20gb like i though. we went into disk management but there was some weird thing that was stopping us from formatting.

i really just want to wipe at least one disk complelely clean, and install. but its impossible. ive tried everything. i googled it and foud this: deltree /y C:\*.* i dont know if that will work. the biggest problem is that it just wont let me boot from a cd. and i dont even know if the upgrade disk is bootable. if you have any suggestions for what i can do, that would be great.

ok, but the problem is, that the stupid dell wont allow me to change the boot order. maybe it will automatically boot from the floppy?

EDIT: also, i just figured out that they are scsi hard drives. will i need drivers for them? i dont have any drivers.

If you need to install drivers press F6 during Windows setup. To find out what model drive you have try Device Manager or open the case.

It should at least boot from a floppy. Try phoning Dell. I can't believe that they don't have BIOS options.

Download your SCSI controller driver from the net and put it in a floppy.

Its possible to download the drivers, what model drive is it? Search on google and see if you get any hits.
