help me reduce glare of 21" CRT? I'm dyin here...

Hey guys,

I know you can buy overlay screens that work well for reducing glare on a CRT, but they're very expensive for 21" size units.

Is there a work around that anyone knows of?, like polarizer filters that photographers use, tinted acrylic or something...anything? I'm just thinking out loud here so I don't know if I just answered my own question, but I've got to figure something out as all this bright white for hours is giving me big headaches.

Can't swing an LCD right now, and won't be able to for awhile, so a budget fix would be great.

Maintaining color accuracy doesn't matter to me, as this is just used for data entry, web surfing, etc.

If accuracy doesn't matter, you can sandpaper the glass. That would get rid of the glare.

Seriously though, I would say simply moving the monitor would be the best, and easiest solution.

Move your setup around so then your CRT isn't facing the source of the light.
There are no glare reduction coatings on your CRT?

you could craft a shade for your crt outta opaque plastic. Have thin slabs coming out 6-8" from the top and the sides of the monitor like this monitor has:

my bad...I should've used a different word...

I don't mean the glare of the monitor reflecting the surrounding environment, I mean the "glare" of the bright white bkrnd of the web browser being so "glaringly bright" into my eyes.

That's why I mentioned polarizing filters and other overlay options.....as attempts to place something over the monitor to reduce it's brightness output.

Any ideas how to fix that problem?

Why can't you just turn the brightness, and or contrast down?

because it still keeps all the white bkrnd pretty bright....i have pretty sensitive eyes and get headaches easy.

I actually just tried placing an ND (neutral density) gel filter over the screen and it helps tons. (they're 12x12 photo filters for strobes) Now I just need to get some bigger sheets and I should be all set.

Any other idea are more than welcome though....

Set refresh as high as it'll go. Maybe get some glass tinting if it's too bright. Have your screen tinted. Wear some sunglasses.
