i'm trying to help my friend recover some files from a floppy. He put in in a pc with a bad floppy drive which erased the file table. Now it says "would you like to format" in every pc he puts it in.

Is there any freeware or trial version of anything out there that will help?

Thanks a bunch,
Gage

If you have Norton Utilities there is a file in there to check the drive for files that removed from the fat table (deleted) and recover them. The file is named enerase.exe. In DOS their is undelete.exe that will do the same thing. The undelete.exe will ask for the file name, just use wild card for the file name and extension. You would have to run these programs from your hard drive and I do not know how XP would handle that, if that is your operating system.

Here is a program which can probably fix it. It's an old command line program that I found a few years ago and it's worked wonders on disks that have problems like you describe. Hope this helps.

Norton 2001 and 2002 have it if you install Win9x. I do not know about 2003 and Win2000.

thanks guys. Both those programs are just what i would need if there were any files. Unfortunately it seems that either my friend pressed yes when asked do you want to format (he said he didn't but...) or the drive just formatted the disk automatically.

Thanks again for your help. That Badcopy pro was a really nice program,
