Help me put together a super cheap system :)

I'm looking to put together a few super cheap systems. I already have monitors, mice, keyboards, cd-drives, network cards and maybe hard drives...

So what I need would be... Case with PSU, Mobo (preferably with integrated graphics, sound would be nice but not necessary), Around at least 1.5GHZ CPU (May do some mild overclocking, but not necessary), 256-512 RAM. Also some cheap options for hard drives- they don't need to be large.

These are primarily for office use- No Gaming, mostly just internet and office applications. But I would like AMD because of personal preference! 🙂

So what's the cheapest you can come up with!

Thanks 🙂

For the base, I would reccomend a Duron 1.6 for $40, and a VIA KM400 based board for $50. That's a whole lotta hardware for less than $100.

AMD Duron 1.8GHz Socket A Processor $43

DFI KM266A Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU, Model "AZ30-TL" $50

KRETON 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-2700 $54

All these prices are from newegg. the motherboard has onboard audio, video, and lan. 256mb of ram is plenty because the internet and office apps dont require much ram at all. otherwise, you will have a speedy system descent enough for anything else for $147 each. for memory, prices are up, so the only way to get good deals on them are by bargain shopping. look for rebates or sales on www.bensbargains.com or www.techbargains.net.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing!

ABIT nForce2 Model "NF7-S"
$105.00

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ "Barton",
$76.00

ANTEC Solution Series Super Mid Tower Case with 350W Power Supply
$55.00

Geil Value Series 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-2700 - OEM
2 x 53.00 = 106.00 for 512 MB

Western Digital 40GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model WD400JB, OEM Drive only
$63.50

SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600 Video Card
$97.00

Total: $503

Not the cheapest, but its a nice system!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Keep em coming 🙂

What about cheap HD's that are decently fast? Even 10-20 GB is probably fine.

Thanks 🙂

I also have been looking at putting together a good cheap system and came up with the following parts.

Raidmax case w/ 350w ps- 50
ECS K7VTA3 w/ amd 2200- 70 on ebay
WD 80gb 7200 HD- 70
Ti4200 64mb- 50 on ebay
512mb ram- 70 used off the for sale forum.
Lite on cd- 15
Logitech mouse/kb- 20

$350 for a complete system.

Or bring the ti4200 down to a mx440 for $20. and bring the ram down to 256mb. Then your total system cost is 285.
