Reset it by pulling the cmos batterie located on the board.....I would not raise the cpu voltage but raise the vdimm (ram voltage) then set the timings if you can...Never trust auto...set them to stock settings at first then loosening them a bit....at 300 the ram would be running 66mhz over stock....

Now how about the ocing??? I haven't really heard of the foxconn...You may have not gotten a really good ocing motherboard....not to mention generic ram...

well the ram i have to live with because i had a low budget and i didnt want less then 1gb...the foxconn mobo(heres a review from pcstat )i thought would be decent as this website recommended it for a budget comp and said it had decent ocing capabilities...as for me ocing....i cant find what the stock vdimm voltage is....

Well the board will set it at 1.8v by default...check out the ram at the rams manufacturers webpage to see for sure but most generic 533ddr2 will also be stock at 1.8v...You likely need to bump it to 1.9v-2.0v...

okay so it was 1.8...and i raised it by .1.... now im trying to set the timing.....and this i completely dont understand.....i set it to manual....and it gives me

CAS Latency Time
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay
DRAM RAS# Precharge
Precharge delay (tRAS)

and a Memclock index value

which ones do i change?

I'd suggest putting your RAM to 5-6-6-18-2T timings. And you'll want your RAM at 266 Mhz (before starting to overclock), or 533 if that's the lowest setting, or 1:1 or 100%, if it uses that kind of ratio.

I have a general question about overclocking.

Do you say to set timings like this (loose) so that you can up the FSB without worrying about memory, and then later you can try to tighten up the timings? Is that how your supposed to go about it?

I've read a few articles on the theories behind OC'ing, but not many deal with the actual procedure...

Thanks

You can run looser timings to allow you to raise the bus speed. Otherwise you don't know if your memory can actually run on its default timings at a higher speed that it's technically rated for.

i suggest you read the %@# manual before you overclock.

and perhaps a lot more reading of bios settings for overclocking online too...

you'd think the kid would research overclocking before he tried it.......

Are you refering to my question or the OP?
I'm asking basic questions, but I haven't even built my system yet. I always research thoroughly before I make decisions like buying hardware and make BIOS changes...

Motherboard manuals are almost worthless. Most of my manual are simpy snapshoot of what you see in the BIOS without much or any explanation at all. It's basically a waste of time to read them.

Your second choice is what I would recommend. Using forum search and Google too.

umm....yah i did read up on ocing.....for the poster who mentioned that.....exactly why i tried.....but nothing i read exactly spelled out what to do ...so i tried to go with what i actually understood from what the bios was showing me....but obviously it wasnt right....and i never came across anythign on upping the ram first before touching the cpu.....it seemed as if everythign was being done at one time...so that what i did....dont have to be mean about it....a noob is a noob, sorry if you never were one....but in any case....i will jsut continue reading and asking noob questions

Read up on dividers and see if your bios has them. If it does just use the dividers to run the ram near its stock speeds and overclock the cpu as much as you like.

699 mhz? Reset your cmos and start over. Sometimes after repeatedly making changes to the settings the cmos gets screwed up.

sounds like the memory divider is on auto.....Go into cmops and look for any type of memory divider....
