Hey all.
I'm planning on taking a trip to chicago towards the end of july for a 3 day music festival at Union park. I'll be going with 3 other people, so keep in mind I'll need 2 rooms, transportation for four, etc. I'll be departing from Philadelphia. Some things I've been thinking over
Transportation:
Drive? Fly? Train? Bus?
Mapquest tells me the drive to chicago will be about 13 hours, which means 11 or so hours for me. Greyhound tells me the bus ride (~$150 round trip) will be upwards of 21 hours!!)
Cheapest plane tickets I've seen are around $160
An AMTRAC train ticket seems equally expensive.
Hotel:
Is it better to get a cheaper hotel farther away from the park, but have to pay more for public transportation (cab, bus etc), or smarter to spend some more for a hotel within reasonable distance.
A "comfortable" and "elegant" hotel really isnt a priority for me right now. I'm basically looking for two things in a hotel: a bed, and a door. Don't bne afraid to reccommend a dump if its cheap and close to the park. I won't be spending much time in the room anyway
Budget:
Tickets for the festival will be $30 for two days. I will NOT undergo this trip if I don't think I can go for less (preferably a lot less) than $500 a person, all inclusive.
With that in mind, anyone have any advice? Previous experience in chicago? Any Chicagonites reccommend anywhere cheap to eat? sleep? Anything and everything anyone has to say is welcome. Thanks a lot everyone
