Need to replace an ageing Radeon 9800 pro in a Socket754 rig, games that are played are: FrozenThrone, Madden/Nba Live/MLB baseball, occasional Farcry/halflife 2, JediKnight , BF1942:DC mod, Battlefield 2.

I want to get my card from monarchcomputer because that will save me on tax, and its free s/h. Cards are:

XfX Geforce 6800 128mb - $162
EVGA Geforce 6800 128mb - $182 - $20 MIR = $162 (evga has lifetime warranty right?)
ATI REfurb x800PRO 256mb - $185 (final price out the door w/ 5% discount, comes with 3 year warranty)

Im sold on the X800 Pro with the recent price drop, tell me a good reason not to get X800 pro? :)

i like that $162 EVGA model. you could probably unlock the extra pipes in it too

I bought a PNY 6800 Vanilla from Newegg.com for $159 shipped. I don't know if they are still there or not. It was a month or 2 ago. I DID successfully unlock the extra pipes too. So, they are running with 16x Pipelines and 6x Vertex Shaders. I can get it to OC to around 900mhz on memory and 475?? (don't remember exactly) on the core. So, I was able to get fairly close to the GT speeds. Not to bad for a $160 video card :)

pny 6800 for $159? that was a good deal man. Even better if that OC was on stock cooling.

ON TOPIC: as for the choice of video cards - THe eVGA card would definately be the best bang for the buck, and I have heard lots of luck with unlocking the extra pipes. I would pretty much rule out the XFX, nothing against them - they make some decent cards, but they dropped the ball on the 6800.

Is the X800Pro worth the $40 difference over the 6800? Is it really that much faster over the Geforce 6800?
