Help me pick out some new golf clubs!

My 2 year old Orlimar 420cc driver snapped at the range the other day, so it's time to buy a new driver plus I want some new woods. I don't want to break the bank on the newest clubs. Please give me some recommendations on a driver.. I also would like a 3 wood and maybe a 5/7/hybrid wood to take the place of my 3 iron...

please help!

Good time to buy is now.. There are lot of new drivers coming out currently, so the last years model will be cheap.

People always recommend the Taylormade 580XD, very nice club.. You can buy it for around $150 on ebay..


Hey, If you are going to throw away your old club, can you send it to me? I want to try to assemble a club and I need parts for it..

 
cant suggest much without seeing you swing but a buying suggestion would be to have a replica 3 wood made. No need to pay full price on a club you dont hit that much. Unless you tee off with it a ton (which pros do but amatuers dont) you need it on par 5's mostly. spend money on the clubs you use the most. most people skimp on putters and yet they are used on every hole.

bah, just learn to chip like a god.

irons are some of the most important clubs in your bag due to usage.

my fathers cleveland golf irons are very nice and i love to use them. he also has taylor made drivers, oversized head. and lengthened 1.5"

overall they are nice.

well of course irons are important. You repeated what I said. Thats why I suggest against getting an expensive 3 wood. You really need to hit a lot of balls with different drivers to figure out what loft, grip, and shaft you need.
 
Right now I'm happy with the irons I have. The driver and a fairway wood are the two biggest needs right now. I agree that the 3 wood wont be used that much right now. Any specific brands to stay away from? I haven't heard many good reviews on Callaway recently.

Take the big names...titleist, callaway, taylor made and Nike and test each of them out. You should try and get fitted. Have someone clock your swing speed and get the right shaft for you. That is the key.
 
Grab a TaylorMade 580 if you can get your hands on it for a decent price ... even the 540 rocks. I even found myself a Callaway SteelHead Plus, brand spanking new the other day for $58 CDN, and had to buy it as a backup.

As for a 3-wood ... I just got myself a new TaylorMade V-Steel 3 wood which is brilliant so far. Only hit it on the range though ... 🙂 Must wait for the snow to melt some more before actually playing.

 
Find a clubfitter, get a launch monitor session and buy something that fits. If you buy any club based on recommendations of the people here you're a moron.
 
Yes, find a club fitter. Explain to him what club you may want, and he can probably recommend you a shaft length + club angle.

If not, he can probably fit you w/ clubs that are from the company that is sponsoring him. (ex: henry griffiths..)

 
Don't buy a driver until you hit the Cleveland Launcher 460... it may look big, you'll get over it. It's a great club. The guy I work with qualified for the John Deere Classic last summer using. So it's not just big to be forgiving. Depending on your handicap, you can look into the Alidia NV shaft. I would try a few out, but the Cleveland driver is $100 under Titleist, Callaway, and taylor-made retail prices. It's a great club. Try it out. We sold so many of those in our pro shop last summer, people hit them... then buy 'em.
