Help me pick out some LCDs

My boss wants to dump a bunch of the CRTs in the office and get some flat panels. Have to buy em from best buy though (cause of gift certs. and what not).

Anywho, I need to get 2 higher end ones for the production people, and 3 ones for less money for others.

For the 2 production people, I was gonna get the 20" Apple Cinema displays.

I just need to pick out some 17" or 19" now. I dont know much about LCDs so can someone reccommend some? Can't be too expensive though.

one of the best (yet still cheap) 17" and 19" lcds are the Samsung 730b and 930b. They are very good monitors. As for the 20", i'm not sure which ones are good. Anyways, it's really hard to recommend a lcd if we don't know what the lcd is intended for (video editing, photos...) and what price range. Get the Samsung 730B/930B if you need 8ms and decent contrast ratio (600:1, 700:1), otherwise if you don't need the low response time, you could pick something with a higher contrast ratio and it's cheaper.

The higher end ones are for graphic design, so color matching and what not is important. The lower end ones are just for day to day busness stuff (MS office programs and the like)

The 20" Apple is using the same panel as the Dell 2005FPW, which happens to cost considerably less even though offering much more features (USB hub, pivot function, speaker option, twin inputs, etc.)

*EDIT*
nvm, you have no option of buying Dell 2005fpw.. since you are buying them from BestBuy...

yuk.

yeah, the dell would be cheaper, but thats not an option. Im pretty set on the apple's for the high endl, still trying to decide on the low ends though.

The Apple 20" is a great monitor. For the lower end versions what resolution are you wanting them to run in and what graphics card will be powering them?

Does the Apple display come with the color calibration software?

I know the Dell doesn't. It is important for color matching and profiling since it is a given step before any meaningful design work can be done.

the apple cinemas are nice for high-end monitors. i'd stay away from those sony monitors. they are not adjustable at all. instead, i'd buy something from samsung or lg. both companies produce excellent panels. take a look at the LG L1980Q, very good looking monitor. or you can save a hundred or two and get the 17" version.
