Help me pick out a new cd deck for the new car.

Just got a new car, and I think I'm going to try installing a new cd deck. I've never been a fan of market radios, so I want something flashy, and most of all something that will play mp3's.

So, let's say a budget of $250-$300, but I obviously want to go as cheap as I can. Thanks for any recommendations.

I myself went with a Kenwood X-979 so I could use Sirius and the Music Keg. But the new X-789 seems pretty nice, from what I read it can do Sirius or XM, will play MP3/WMA/AAC (First player Ive seen to do AAC).

I got my 979 from etronics but they raised their price on it, their still cheaper then anywhere else and have the 789 for like $230. But Kenwood won't warranty it from etronics AFAIK.

I like Clarion's, but I dislike their design, except some of the higher models, but they have that insanely iritating touch screen crap that is annoying as hell.

Etronics had the best price out of anyone on my Clarion, and the shipping was pretty quick as well.

AAC is the iTunes format, correct? I purchase all my music via iTunes, but it's sad that I'm don't even know the format :). I previously would've just converted all my iTunes music to mp3, but if a player plays AAC out of the box, this would make my life much easier :). Plus, the choice of Sirius or XM is a plus as well.

Thanks guys.

Correct, AAC is iTunes. Not only is it convience if you already have your music as AAC, but youll save alot of quality by not having to convert from one lossy codec to another.

I am all about receiver quality, therefore I prefer the Blaupunkts with Digiceiver. Hands down the best receiver for fringe FM stations.

Find one with an AUX input, that way you could hook up a MP3 player or in the future a HD radio reciever.

Those FM tuner tranmitter things produce terrible sound when compared to a low level input.

I could write you a book about why not to go with certain units, but to give you the short answer: Go Eclipse for best sound quality with a simple design, or go Pioneer with awesome design features with acceptable sound quality. Don't go Alpine, so many people swear by Alpine for CD players but the fact is they are unreliable and most become faulty in a short amount of time.

I myself went Pioneer for both my HU and EQ devices and absolutely love the music they produce. But you should still go to a BB or Tweeter/Sound Advice store to look at and listen to their setups before deciding. Nice car and good luck!

Pioneer or Alpine. I've had both, extremely pleased with both. I've also never heard of Alpines going bad like the above poster says, but who knows....

Pionner might be a bit more "flashy" than Alpine too, if that's what you're looking for.

aux input..and unless you are getting some awesome expensive component speakers, spending more than 150 on a headunit is tossing money down the drain.
