I've narrowed down my choices to a Dell 1905FP and a ViewSonic VX924.
The Hyundai L90+ was a close choice too, but it seems the are having some quality issues.

I play World of Warcraft and surf the net. I am upgrading the rest of my system in Feb 06 and will then play BF2 a little.

My current LCD is a 15" Dell E15 something or other. I've had it for 2 years so anything will be better then it.

Many thanks for voting

Doesnt that dell use slower (20ms) response crystals.
If you game, i believe you still are better off with a really big nice crt. Just looks better.
I was about to purchase one and just decided to look for a nice NEC crt or wait one more generation. Cause the viewing angle just bites when you lean over it looks like crap.

I have space limitations so it has to be an LCD. I've never had a problem with viewing angle with this 15" Dell lcd I got 2.5 years ago and I am sure it sucks now compared to either of the two I am going to get.

So far Dell leads. I am not sure why since it would be slower for gaming. Although it has to be better than this LCD. Maybe it's the name recognition. I mesed around with the VX924 as a demo and it seemed fine. So looking for compelling reasons for or against one over the other.

Thanks again.

Thanks for those suggestions. Yeah those were on my original list but my upper price limit is about 360.

I am sure your e-peen will still be longer than mine if I get the VX924 or the Dell. You can feel safe again.

Since price limit is 360, I recommend the 924. L90 is like the samsung 930b. I've used the 930B and it hurts my eyes =(. 924 is a pretty good monitor. My friend and I put our 2 viewsonic monitors together. I somehow like the 191b for better colors, but the 924 doesn't lag behind. Ghosting is definitely not noticeable.

i am still a CTR fan but i would recommend Hyundai L90 for your price limit. For BF2 i would recommend a monitor that can do 1600x1200+ and also a decent graphic card. The game eats up memory like their isn't tomorrow so its good to have 2GB ram and ram now days are pretty cheap.

Do you even know what you're talking about? Which current-gen LCD's have you used?

Yeah the only reason Dell is in there is because you can get the 1905 right now for about 360 with the 20% they are offering. Dell is the comfort factor. I somehow feel if I choose them I will be happy with what I get because of my good experience with my current LCD.

I feel that the ViewSonic is a better monitor for some reason i guess, after reading some reviews and seeing it in person. I like the style of it and the adjustment buttons are nice.

You might as well wait for a dell end of quarter deal. 1905 for like $286 last quarter or something????

Well after talking to a dell rep and coaxing another discount out of her. I decided to order the Dell. End price was @350. I asked her about posible "end of quarter" discounts and she said he isn't privy to that info and she finds out usually the day before they go into effect.

Thankfully Dell offers a price guarantee and up to 21 days after my ship date I can ask for it. That puts me well past the rumored october "end of quarter" discounts. (rumored and debated it seems).

So I feel comfortable I can get the monitor cheaper if it gets cheaper and at the price I paid I already got a good deal.

I might post a review of it from a normal person's prespective vs. a "super analytical omgwtfIwantthebest e-peen" type of opinion.

Thanks for all that voted

Hi,

I have a Dell 1905FP. It is a good monitor, very good for desktop usage (internet, word, excel, etc): sharp text, good viewing angles, easy on the eyes. I strongly recommend that you use the DVI input.

It is good also for certain types of games, like RTS or even WoW. But contrary to the review here at Anandtech, it has some ghosting issues for FPS games. Some games are worse than others, in my case Half Life 2 and Riddick were very bad on this monitor. I am not picky, it must be the monitor.

In comparison, I have also a Dell 2405 and FPS games are not an issue on this one. I can't see any ghosting.

I know it is out of your price range - what I want say is that if FPS games are important to you, don't get the 1905FP.

Also worth mentioning is that I had 0 problems with both monitors: 0 dead pixels !!

Good luck with your purchase decision :)
