citizen eco-drive (5 yr warranty) - ~$130

tissot (2 yr warranty) ~$165

they're both plain and simple watches; i don't want any bling or mammoth-sized watches. they're both titanium, which is a feature that i really want on a watch. the citizen is solar-quart powered while the tissot is battery-quartz operated. i don't know where these watches are actually made, but the tissot is a swiss brand while citizen is a japanese brand. the nice thing about the tissot is that it has a sapphire crystal face that is very scratch resistent (vs. regular/mineral crystal of the citizen). from the pictures, i like the band on the tissot a little bit more--it seems narrower and the link design has a nice simplicity to it that i like, but the citizen isn't bad either.

tissot is probably a more reputatble brand though there are nicer watches out there. i probably won't even wear it a lot as i'm not even really big into wearing wathces but i just want something that will look ok when i need to dress up a bit or look more professional.

despite having a mineral crystal face, my mind is pretty much made up and i'm going to order the citizen since it's a bit cheaper and the solar-powered feature is kinda neat.

thoughts?

If you don't wear it all the time, or wear long sleeves all the time, the ecodrives can run flat pretty easily, at least, my sisters does...

yeah that's why kinetic watches were off my list. citizen says it has a 180 day reserve. i plan on leaving it on a window sill if i don;t wear it. and ambient flourescent lighting should be good enough to keep it charged though not enough to charge it initially or from dead.

I have a $450 ecodrive watch that's been running just fine for 3+ years. I wore it daily for 2 years and for the last it's been sitting on my shelf. It sort of turns itself off and then when you expose it to light it catches up and set the right time. If it's in a room where the lights get turned on every once in a while it'll be fine.

I only quit wearing it so much because the gold plating was wearing off in places and I wanted it to stay looking nice. It's a great watch otherwise.
