I'm in the market for a new screen, what one is better?

I have no experience with either.. nor with high end CRTs (21"+) or LCDs (any).

I know and understand the differences in technologies and how CRTs are so great for gaming.. blah... blah.. blah.

But if anyone has experience with BOTH or at least one of these I'd like to hear it.

My fiance and me are moving in together and she wants us to have flat panels.. and 1600x1200 is high enough for me (I think, unless you guys think otherwise).
I'm currently gaming at 1024x768, same for desktop.. but I want more space and higher res in the few games that I play (Doom3, some Warcraft3, UT2K4 and soon HL2).

But I've never really used a PC at 1600x1200.. let alone 2048x1536 (which I think I'd like to have for MMORPGs like World of Warcraft in case I need more real estate).

I think it'd be nice to have 2048 "on tap".. but if you guys think that even that NEC monitor is too small for 2048.. or have other reasons why 1600x1200 will be plenty.. shoot it on over.

Heres the system I'm going to eventually (when released), match with my new screen:
NF4 SLI, A64 3500+ (unless the FX53 goes to around $600), a 6800 Ultra (later add another one when I want more speed and they drop in price)
And keep in mind that money is not a big concern for me (i've been waiting for a completely new system FOREVER.. but I'm not a millionaire either.. so i dont want a 50" plasma or something crazy.

I just gota Dell 2001FP tonight. This thins is BEAUTIFUL. I played some CS:source and it was great. I've got a 6800 GT so it can stand up to the 1600x1200 native res no problem. I am VERY happy with this monitor. I have no dead/stuck pixels and it is crystal clear. I would recommend one to anyone.
I have seen it for $609 once but ussually with coupons they are in the 680 range. It might be a little steep but I think it is totaly worth it with it sitting here infront of me.

not to be combative.. but i think the price is awesome on both screens.

esp the 2001FP.. $650 for a 20" viewable LCD with a response time that allows for gaming??
if you cant tell, im leaning that way.. i think its an incredible bargain.

i just dont understand/know the benefits of having 2048x1536 over "plain-jane" 1600x1200.. as i have neither right now.

i have of course seen 1600x1200 and its actually a big high res for my taste (being a 1024x768 user).. but in recent months have felt the need for more desktop real-estate and higher res gaming..

1600x1200 should be more than sufficient.. even in next gen games with dual 6800 Ultras.. but as i've said.. i dont really know!

Next time the 2001FP goes on sale, I'm gonna get one. My old 17" crt is dying fast.

I just can't bear to go out and get a 19"crt for all the space they take up and heat they produce.

I will finance the 2001FP through DELL...i'll insist that they give me 0% interest for 6 months. I'll put 200 down and pay off the rest over the 6 months.

They do produce quite a bit of heat. and the lcds are much nicer to my eyes.. im really sensitive to refresh rate.

i dont do many lan parties but the weight is a factor for those people. i'll be married in about 2 weeks and she does not really want a big 22" monitor.

get the mitsu CRT, these things are amazing looking, such great color, perfect text ext

i run 1600x1200 on them sometimes i go higher but the max 2480 or whatever it is is just huge and is basically too big for anything other then large graphics work, most games dont even support it
