I've been looking at IBM laptops on ebay. What is the difference in the T, R and A series? They all seem to be about the same but for the weight. Is anyone of them more reliable that the others?

Thanks

I've been looking at the Dells too. The IBM site on Ebay has some pretty decent deals on laptops though. Somebody out there must know about IBMs. Come on guys help me out, I need to order something in the morning.

Fujitsu's are made in Japan & are well put 2gether. If I wanted a full size laptop I would have gotten the S series, but I wanted portability(with CDRW) so I got the P series. P2110 is a great little laptop, tho not good 4 gaming since CPU(TransMeta) is only 867mhz & video(ATi) has only 8mb RAM...but U can get them with 30GB HDD, WiFI, & 512mb RAM(after Oct). Comes standard with 20GB HDD, USB floppy, NIC, V.90 modem, FireWire, 2 USB(1.1) ports, 256mb RAM, a DVD/CDROM/CDRW combo, & XPHome ~$1500.

R series technically offer a nice blend of weight/performance and can be configured with a whole lot of different, nice options. They are pretty expensive for what you get but that is IBM's reputation. They are rock solid and great for travel. Basically go here: R Series and look at what you can get. They also don't have a touchpad I believe, only the eraserhead in the middle of the keyboard.

if I were you, I would stay away from IBM. I am using IBM and have so many problems.

If you want a high quality laptop, get Fujitsu. It's made in Japan and well build.

you will not regret it for sure.
if you buy IBM, who knows what's gonna happen with your system. the same sh!t like my system. I hate IBM...

IBM laptops are very reliable... Maybe your 1 laptop doesn't represent the millions they sell each year?

Hands down Linksys WAP11 very good range lots of options. Later versions are 100mw output and earlier ones can be firmware hacked to do the same.

Sorry to here you had problems Stingbandel, but I'm looking forward to getting mine.

ai42 thanks for the suggestion on the Linksys, the laptop should be here in a couple of days so I want to have an wireless access point by the time it does. Wants the point of having a wireless laptop without it right! ;)

Nice choice, I have a T series thinkpad, and a dell trumobile (orinoco gold rebage), and the WAP11 AP. I get excellent range with the WAP 11 compared to my old netgear wireless router. In fact I'm posting from it right now :D

The R Series that I pruchased has the Ethernet (Built-in wireless antenna) & Modem combo. So with that and a WAP 11 I guess I should be set. :p Can't wait to sit out in the back yard with a cool one and try it out!

Just to follow up.

Got the laptop and Linksys WAP 11. Everything is up and working well. The wireless is great, works upstairs and on the main floor, signal gets a little weak at the other end of the house but is usable. I should have another stick of memory Tuesday and I'll be set. Thanks for the imput everyone.
