Ok folks the title pretty much says it all, I'm in the market for a new phone for the first time in about . . . . 4 years, so I want to make it a good one like my last phone. (My last phone was the Panasonic EB-XT220, durrable as heck. I've played broomball with it as the ball and thrown it at the celing of the Mall of America and the thing still worked.)

Anyway, as for a new phone, there are way WAY too many options out there, and I know nothing so I figured you OT people could help me out.

As it is I know nothing about GSM phones, how to unlock them, what features they have . . . .ect ect. Whenever I google for unlocking GSM phones I get tons of responses on places you can pay to do it, but nothing on how to do it myself. (Info on unlocking phones also greatly desired)

As for a phone, I'm looking for . . . .
1) Something with USB preferably so I can do firmware upgrades, sync to my computer, ect
2) Voice and signal quality obviously
3) Durability
4) Battery life, I'm willing to sacrifice pretty much all features for battery life
5) Intuitivness of the User Interface
6) No flip phones unless you can change my mind!

So any imput is of help, what worked for you, what did you hate, why, what do your friends like, ect ect

Questions (Will add more as I think of them)
Do all GSM phones work with any provider that has a GSM network ?

I put this thread here because I didnt know where to put it and also because you OT people are some sick monkeys. This thread will have a reply count higher than I have posts by the time I log on to check it tomorow morning and a view count so high I dont think it could be described with words.

I was going to suggest a V400 or V600 or something until I saw #4 and #6 on his requirement list, lol...

firmware updates require a product (or one similar to) called a Griffin Box. The box retails at ~$249. You won't find a phone that has USB, nor one that can have it's firmware updated via USB either. I'm a die-hard Nokia fan.
