D: Not spending $525 on a watch

The thing is...I used to think that way...but then after 2 of my $100 watches died, I did the math and it doesn't add up. I hear Tag's are supposed to last forever so here I am. Looking for a watch that'll last 20+ year. I have a 14 yr old casio (made in Japan) that my dad bought for me in eighth grade that still works like a charm, but my dog got to it, and now the strap looks like crapI want the same kind durability with my next watch and I hear Tag's last a long time. I don't mind spending a little if it means this watch will last. If I keep buying cheap watches that break every year or so, the $500 doesn't seem that much now does it?

Don't pay $525 for a quartz watch! You could buy any of several really cool mechanical watches for that kind of cake. That's about what I paid for my Sinn 656 (another pic on the original strap). You could get a Marathon SAR, or any number of other great watches that will really hold their value and be a good start to a collection.

Heuers like this use stock Swatch quartz movements - there is nothing about this watch that will predictably outlive a Swatch. I still don't like the idea of spending this kind of money on any quartz watch - they are fundamentally soulless IMO, and a $39 Timex will work as well, and last as long as this Heuer.

those are some nice watches, but I've vowed never to own a metal strap again. Ouch my hair! Also, I would never get a leather strap either, peeewwwww! stinks after you wet it
I want a watch that I can be carefree about. I want to be able to wear it in the shower, go swimming, or scuba diving sometimes
I don't want to worry about water resistance either.

are you saying quartz movement doesn't last long? if so, which one lasts the longest? without having to take the watch to the shop...ever! ?
You should never wear any watch in the shower, because the heat, combined with water, will compromise the seals over time. I wouldn't wear a $20 Casio or a $4K Rolex Sea-Dweller in the shower.
