I have an Intel D5400XS Motherboard, and after looking at many processors, I'm still at a loss as to which ones to get.

Look Here to find info on all the Multipliers.

I'd ideally like to find the cheapest CPU with the highest multiplier.

Also, does the "X" designation mean it has unlocked multipliers?

Look here to see processors compatible with your board.

Of those, the QX9775 is the only one with an unlocked multiplier. It's also going to cost you a cool $1,549.99 at newegg. Or twice that if you want to run a pair.

The E-series have 80W TDP while the X-series have 120W TDP (hotter/higher power consumption).

What I recommend: sell your D5400XS and build an i7 system. Faster than the QX9775, cheaper (you can build a whole i7-920 system for <$1500), lower power consumption - you name it, i7 does it better. And it also supports TriSLI just like the Skulltrail board you have.

X5370... based of the E0 stepping.
But good luck finding that. Those chips are UBER UBER RARE.

I only know 2 people who have them, and both got sourced from my source. :T

CyberDruid, and Movieman. :p

Those are probably the only gaurentee 4ghz chips i can think of.
