Hi! This is my first post at AnandTech and am quite stunned by the quality of advice and information present on the forums.
Great work by all the regulars!
Now, I have an Intel C2D E6550 which is on a MSI p6n SLi V2 board (nVidia 650i based). I use 1 GB (2x 512MB) 667 Mhz RAM. My timings are pretty loose, like 5-5-5-xx (cant remember the last). I am on stock cooling.
I attempted to OC my CPU from the BIOS and got it to hit 2.63 Ghz by just increasing the FSB. I had disabled C1E and D.O.T as well as EIST. I dint even have to touch the voltages. This was brought about by an FSB of 375. (375x7 = 2632). My mobo automatically selects a divider for my ram and currently it is running at the stock 333Mhz by a 9:8 divider for CPU:RAM.
However, this is where the problem creeps in. If i try to increase the FSB to even 376 Mhz, my system refuses to POST. I tried upping the voltages for everything but nothing seemed to help and no matter what I do, I cant get it over 2.63 Ghz. I'm sure that this chip can take more than 375 Mhz (from what i've read) and my mobo can definetly handle more than 375 Mhz (which i confirmed by lowering the multi of my CPU). Apart from this my temps never exceed 45 load. (45 as of TAT by the way) . So i'm sure that there is scope for overclocking this chip to atleast 3Ghz , So can i please get some advice on how i can accomplish this?????
