Help me out...

This friend of mine is going to be setting up an online shop soon and wants me to do the layout/content and arrange all the credit card dealings and everything. It shouldn't take me more than a day to complete this. However, being the nice guy that he is he has offered to share the profits with me or allow me to take a set fee of a certain amount of money right now and never get paid again. I am clueless about what to do, should I share the profits and take the losses if the company goes bellyup or should I take the set money amount right now? Help!

Depends on how bad you need the cash!? If you don't need it badly I would take the invesment aspect. I mean ,, if it does well you get a cut.

First off, how likely is it that you're going to REALLY build this site in a day? You don't think you'll want to make any format changes? Ever? How likely is it that your friend will like whatever your choice for format is?

Setting up the secure credit card transaction on the website alone should take you a decent amount of time.

I get the feeling that you'll be doing more updates to the site. Work out a deal for upfront money for work done AND residual on profits. Essentially 'keeping you on retainer' for future work.

You're working with a friend on a business deal, this is DANGEROUS territory! Try and forget that you're friends and approach the situation as a business deal. Being straightforward and upfront at the start will keep things clean.

We aren't going to be setting up our own credit card SSI servers and everything. We are going to be using ccnow's capabilities. Meaning, I can set an account up in a quick amount of time.

always take profits. That will encourage you to do your best. The company profits reflect how much time and effort you put into it. What if it goes absolutely insanely huge and you're stuck with that cheap, initial amount. You got screwed.
