Use to have a 21" NEC 445xpro monitor was super clear, now have dell 2001fp and love it. takes up no room on desk. I use it for autocad mainly. I would get the dell.

This is perhaps the best CRT you can buy. 2056x1538 @ 85hz is its maximum resolution. You cant get anywhere near that resolution on the Dell. But dont take my word for it, it would probably be better if you take a look in person! About the Dell 2001FPs - If you get a good one, you will be happy albeit at 1600x1200. If you get a bad one, you will be pissed off and join the ranks of many others who complain about quality issues. AFAIK, getting a good Dell LCD is hit or miss.

Here is a random review of the CRT.

I have a 2070sb and it has geometry problems. Which from my piont cannot be fixed. I spent 6 hrs and couldent get ir right. I sold it for $450. I do not recommend the 2070sb. Its good and all but the geometry sucks. Also its $700. Checkout AZATEK.com They have older sonY crts which are refurbished or pulled from working enviorment for alot cheaper. The gread A stuff is like new. They ahve great marks on reseller ratings.

for this
+ Vector Design ( Illustrator & Freehand )
+ Image treatment ( Adobe Photoshop )
+ Layout design ( Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator )
+ Graphic Design
+ Flash
+ Coding
+ Gaming
+ DIVx & DVD Movies

I wouldent get a LCD

I dont know if this will help at all, but I really like Samsungs NF monitors, I have the 959NF, its 19 inch, they also do a 22 inch I think.

I have heard good things about mitsubishi, so I say check one out and if you like it get it.

LCD would be fine for most of those things. Except for gaming and movies. Also CRT's are able to get a much brighter image than an LCD. Do you really need to save the space?

There was a huge thread here about one and half years ago on the bad geometry problems of 2141 and 2070.

So...what do you advice in the CRT world? Viewsonic P225f ? Philips 202P40 22" ? ... something like that?

I am curious as well. I don't want to purchase a used monitor, so Sony is out. Phillips and Viewsonic seem like the only alternatives to the NEC/Mit. what is the consensus?

Man I looked at the 22" monitor selection over at Newegg. It seems the selection has thinned quite a bit. IIyma used to make pretty decent CRTs. But I don't see their 22"s anymore. Big CRTs are becoming extinct. :(

I would say the Mits/NEC- 2070SB/2141SB are easily the best available large monitor after having checked out all the ones I could find(including Sony's offerings). The geometry on my 2141SB-BK may not be as perfect as a LCD- but it is still the best I've seen on any flat screen CRT to date and the geometry is its weakest point(not that it is bad at all, just not quite perfect).

Reviews on NewEgg.

The Mitsubishi 2070SB-BK is once again our Extreme Guide pick. Boasting a great balance of image quality and color, with generous resolutions and refresh rates, the Mitsubishi 2070SB-BK is one fine display device, and one of the best 22" gaming monitors on the market. Sharky's

With new TFT monitors coming out every day and dropping in price, it is easy to think that CRT monitors are a dying breed. The fact is however that for hardcore gamers and people working with graphics, CRT's still are the best choice. The price of the Mitsubishi Diamond PRO 2070SB has dropped considerly since it was released a few years ago. At around $600, it still isn't cheap, and you can pick up cheaper 22" monitors from other brands, but the quality of the monitor when playing games, watching videos and using it in everyday use is so good that I have no problems recommending it to anyone who needs a top notch monitor.

Bjorn3D's Review

The Mitsubishi DP2070SB achieved near-perfect scores on the quality portion of the evaluation, with only a quarter-point deduction for color purity. As did several other displays based on this CRT technology, the monitor had problems with weak reds. The array of available adjustments is extensive, including both vertical and horizontal convergence adjustments, linearity, corner correction, global sync, and hot-key control.

CAD Management.

Those are the reviews I could dig up, not even the CAD management site complained about the geometry so I'm assuming those that had problems either got some from a bad batch or just had really bad luck. I know people buying them from Dell had problems with dirt under the coating on the tube for a while, but only people who bought them directly from Dell seemed to be running into the problem.

what's sad ... is that ... my eyes keep "pissing me off" ... although Mitsu's can go like 100Hz @ 1600 x 1200 ... the "radiation" CRTs emit are a pain in the *ss ... and i've been noticing that in my eyes and head... :|

I'm temporarily using an nVidia TNT2 M64 @ 1600x1200 @ 85Hz on a Mitsubishi 2070SB 22" monitor. Completely flickerfree and it's fast. xD

I should be able to purchase a new graphics card next week (a Club 3D X800XT). ;

I have problems with the Geometry of my 2070SB as well. I was unable to correct it completely but I got it to a tolerable level. The problem increases if I use higher refresh rates/resolutions. I currently run at 1280x960 85Hz, if I set it to 100Hz the geometry gets even worse (top of the monitor is slightly stretched).

So what about the Viewsonic 22" parts?

I like the PF795 I have at work, can I expect the P225FB 22" to have the same picture quality just bigger and at higher resolutions?
