Sorry if this has been asked before but I would like for some guidance on how exactly to overclock my i7 920 correctly. I have overclocked in the past but not sure I was doing it right. I know the basics but I always get confused when it comes to the memory.

I would like to get to 4.0ghz and keep it there unless I have trouble. I know I increase the base clock control. Should the clock ratio be changed? What about performance enhance, system memory multiplier? Anything need to be changed in the advanced cpu features, what about the advanced clock control and qpi clock ratio? When the cpu is overclocked, what needs to be done to the memory settings? Should turbo boost be enabled or disabled? Any other settings I should know about?

In the past, I have overclocked to 4.2 and that seemed to be the highest I could get it. If I tried to go to 4.3, it was not stable.

Sorry for all the questions but I want to do this right.

Yes I did and I think that confused me even more.

Right now I am at 3.2ghz and stable using Intel Burn Test. I have the base clock at 160 and the multiplier at 20x. Turbo boost is disabled, extreme memory profile is set to profile1 and SPD at 10 making the ram run at 1600mhz. Vcore is still at stock and DRAM is set to auto. I think everything else is stock.

Here is a screenshot. Tell me if everything looks ok.

You should be able to re-enable Turbo without any troubles; if you can, do so. Downclock the memory for the moment, and then just keep pushing BCLK up, testing with IBT or something similar every increment. If it gets unstable, basically just up the VCore. You might have to adjust QPI/VTT as well.

What should I downclock the memory to? Should I leave it on auto for now?

At what point would I have to adjust the QPI/VTT voltage?
