i have an abit sa6, based on the i815ep chipset, 512 mb of pc133 micron ram, an ata33 4gb seagate drive, a geforce2 mx 200 agp card, pci128 creative sound card, adaptec 2930u scsi adapter, and a netgear fa310tx 10/100 NIC. OK, stop laughing now,l ol. I just got a cely 566, based on reviews i read online where i saw people were pushing to 971 mhz and beyond. i only paid $22 for the thing. Now I am not an experienced overclocker, kinda just starting out, although I understand some things about it. So here's what i did. First I went for the big numbers. This cely has a locked multiplier of 8.5. My mobo can do voltages up to 1.75 in .5 increments. Like I said, I read some reviews first and changed the voltage from 1.5 (default) to 1.7. Next I put the FSB at 100 mhz. I set my dividers up at 3:3:1, so that 100x3/3=cpu running at 100mhz, 100x3/3=ram running at 100mhz, and 100x1/3=pci running at 33 mhz. At this setting, i sometimes post, but windows xp fails to loaf completely. my cpu is running at 39 degrees celcius at idle, 40.5 degrees celcius under load. i tried 800, mhz, 750, 700, 666, 650, all to no avail, but I have managed a piddly 33mhz overclock to where I am currently running the chip right now at 600 mhz on a 72 mhz FSB. :( sux. so help me out a little, I would love to get this thing to 970mhz too. thanks for the help people.

one more bump, i also found out that this cely isa cb0 stepping which is an awesome overclocker. In the meantime, have any of you ever porked your hard drive while attempting to OC? My drive still works, but I am reinstalling winxp as we speak.

Well, plenty of us on these boards have gotten chips that just didn't quite measure up to what most others were able to squeeze out of their chips. Call it luck of the draw.

Did you buy the chip new? OEM or retail? Got good cooling?

I wouldn't trust that an OEM chip hadn't been pre-tested as a dud overclocker and sold to John Public unless it came from a very large supplier that moved too many chips to test each one.

Just don't beat a dead horse.

I bought it from someone online. It turns out it may not be the chip though. I read through the abit newsgroup and according to other people that have successfully OC with it, my mobo (sa6) doesn't OC these cb0 steppings too well. It does like cc0 stepping celys though. Oh well. I did manage to get it up to 650 mhz for now. I'll keep playing with it.
