Help me!! My monitor is fried!

Let me see if I can try to explain this. I just got halflife this week and have been playing it on my WinXP machine. I couldn't get the automatic patch thingy to work so i loaded the game anyways. It works fine except that if you're in the middle of a game and you save it, when it's done saving it goes to a greyish balck halflife screen and you can't see anything. Also, a couple times my monitor turned off on its own for some reason during the game. Anyways, I was fiddling around with settings in the nvidia properties. I changed AA from auto to 4x and i turned of the refresh thingy(can't remember the name). When I loaded halflife up again my monitor started making funny noises and it kinda turned off. I can't remember everything exactly but it made high pitched noises every couple of seconds. Nothing was on the screen at all at this point. So I turned the monitor off and on again and same thing. So I turned the computer off and on again and same thing no screen. I've tried a few different things but nothing has worked. Can someone tell me how I managed to screw up my monitor? And tdo you guys ahave any suggestions as to what I should do?? At the moment I'm using the s-video out of my graphics card and my camcorder so I apologize for any mis spellings etc. Thanks for any words of wisdom etc guys. Wish me luck!!! I want my computer back!!! Oh and sorry for the long post.

One more question. Do ya'll think I'd be able to us a 13 inch tv for a screen while I'm getting this fixed? Would I be able read text wiht it, or at least play games? Thanks.

Try using your monitor on someone else's machine or try a different monitor on your machine. Your monitor might be bad, but it could be something else. I had a monitor go and had to RMA it. Now I have a "refurbished" one but it works great.

I would say that you could use the 13" tv for games, but forget about reading text with it. You will drive yourself insane or blind squinting at the words on a bad resolution viewer.

Thanks so much for the reply Maverick. I'm pretty sure the monitor is bad because, usually when you turn it on, even without a computer hooked up, a little screen will come up but it doesn't. Also when I turn the monitor on and leave it there the LED goes from green to flashing red. I've never seen the flashing red light on the monitor before so I'm guessing it's saying "I'm dying, help me". It's a gateway monitor that came with my last computer so I'm not sure if it's under warranty or not... Hopefully I can get it replaced because it's a really nice monitor(rebadged Mitsubishi Diamondtron). Thanks again!
