Hello and welcome to the forums. What parts did you use for your computer?

Have you installed windows updates?

What OS are you running? Win 98 has known shutdown problems. I'll post more after you answer.

What exactly happens when you try to shutdown? Does any error message come up?

right click on desktop, choose properties.
click on screen saver tab, then 'power' on the bottom right.
Look for advanced or APM tab, and if you have one, make sure APM is enabled.

You will only have APM options if ACPI is disabled I think..........

No, not that.
You need to make sure that either ACPI or APM (Advanced Power Management) is on.

Kotel,

Welcome to the Forums! :D

I know this works in Win2K:

In Device Manager click on View > Show Hidden Devices
See if you have something called NT APM Legacy Device with a red or yellow mark in the icon.
Right click it and select Enable and drivers will be loaded.

Let us know if this works.
