Hi, I've got one of these laying around from my oldschool Nokia cell: link. It's a headset with mono sound and a mic on it. It also has a call accept/end button.

I wanna mod this so it'll work as a pc headset because it's incredibly comfortable. Don't know how the quality will hold up on a pc, but I wanna give it a try at least.

Now, I'm not too familiar in this area, so I had some questions about this. The cable actually consists of two wires, I presume that one carries the received audio to the speaker and one is for the mic. Now what I don't understand is how the button works. Does it work over one of the channels, maybe at a different frequency which is not audible and is interpreted by the phone itself? I take it it won't interfere with the rest once I'm done?

At first I was thinking of just getting an adapter, like a channel splitter. However, it's got one of those tiny jacks so it would probably take at least two adapters. This way I wouldn't have to cut the cable but the quality would suffer I presume.

Now I was thinking of just cutting the cable and soldering each separate wire to a minijack: one for the mic and one for the audio output.

My big question here of course is: will this work? It's pretty inexpensive and I'm not even using the thing anymore at that, but I wanted to know if this could work before I mutilate this thing.

Thanks!
