I got an AMD K6-III+ 450, 256mb of good ram, and an epox mvp3g5...

i can do 550 (5.5X100)

but i cant do anything X112... do i need to change the FSB in the bios?? i can set that to 75 100 112 124 133... explain to me what the deal is with fsb and bus clock how are they realted on the board and in the bios??

The problem is probably that the cache on your motherboard can't do 112.

I have the same motherboard for my old k6-III 450. I can clock it up to 500 by using the multiplier but when I try and step up the FSB clock it won't boot. I read a while back that Epox didn't use the "premium" SRAM's for the cache and that's why the FSB won't go any higher than 100MHz. I have heard of people being able to take the K6-III+ 450 up to 600. This is done by setting the multipier jumpers to x2. It works because of a leftover from the k6-2 400. A user could put a 400 on a board with a 66MHz bus by setting the multiplier to x2, then what happened is internally to the cpu it turned the x2 into x6 (66 x 6 = 396). So by setting the jumper to x2 you should be able to reach 600 (100 x 6 = 600).
My mvp3g5 setup before going to an athlon:
K6-III 450 (oc'd to 500)
384MB RAM
GForce 256 SDR (oc'd to 142core/195mem)
SB Live!
WD 20GB 7200RPM
Netgear FA310 NIC
Modemblaster 5601
DVD/CD ROM 6x/32x

Good luck!

With an almost identical setup, my K6-3+ temps jumped almost 10 degrees celsius going from 550Mhz to 600Mhz, so you may need to get a better cooler if you want to run at that speed...(I got a better one and don't have any problems running at 600Mhz, although mine won't do the 112Mhz FSB either.)

You might want to head on over to the K6-X Series CPUs forum over at SlotA

Look for a program there called k6clkwin.zip, its author is the poster called uart. This utility allows you to control the multiplier of the CPU via software in DOS, Win9x, and WinME. :) The WinNT's and Win2000 are not supported. :(

Hope this helps!

leigh8: My system temperature is 25C, my idle temperature is usually about 29C, and my temperature right now (after running SETI for about 48 hours since the last time I rebooted) is 39C. I am using a DFI heat sink with a nice 5100 RPM AAVID fan and generic thermal grease. (Not really anything special, but it works well for me.) Before, with a plain 'no-name' heat sink my load temp frequently got to 50C or higher..
