Help me make my system silent

Hey guys I currently have a system that is kind of noisy
I want to make it silent as possible which upgrades you guys recommend
or should I just get a whole new system?? was thinking of upgrading to a i5-2500K if it's worth it

-Cooler Master Elite 360 currently 120mm case fan is on
-Intel Core i3 Processor i3-530 stock heatsink
-MSI H55M-E33
-western digital blue 500gb startup hard drive
-Western digital green 2tb
-ATI radeon 5670
-Antec earthwatts 430w

Replace the stock CPU fan with a Corsair H50 water cooling kit, using two Scythe 1200RPM S-Flex fans in push-pull exhaust configuration. Replace other case fans with that fan as well. Not much you can do about the graphics card, except replace it. You could try this one

Replace the power supply with one with a 120mm fan. I recommend the Antec Neo Eco 400C. (30A 12V rail, more than enough for your system), 80plus certified, and extremely quiet.

thanks for the advice NickR but I dont want to go with a watercooling system, do you suggest any fan based heatsinks??

Sometimes it is just the case. Some cases tend to be quiter than others.

I have a case like this and it seems pretty quiet. However, I am using integrated Video.

This.

OP, your case is made of thin steel and...plastic?? Yeah, it's a little worse than just cheap, thin steel. You also have four large holes so that everything inside can be heard. And the PSU is in the front, which I assume means closest to you, and you get to hear its fan as well as the air being pulled.

Swapping out case fans won't help much, since the vibration they transfer to your cheap case will still produce noise.

Beginning with the C2D, stock HSFs have quieted down considerably. I have the HSF that comes with the i7 965, and it's whisper quiet. Switching to water cooling with two fans will only make your system louder.

Get a quality case. That alone will reduce the amount of noise by a great deal.

 Something like a Fractal Design R3 or Antec P183 will go a long way to making your computer quieter.

Beyond that, you need to figure out which fans are the loudest before you go ripping out everything. Open up the case, and stop each fan with a pencil (or your finger if you're brave) in turn. The loudest fan is the one that needs to be replaced first.

The h50 is a completely sealed kit, you don't have to do anything but put it on no filling or topping. Off to worry about. Just silent, case exhausting, CPU freezing goodness. I wouldn't have touched water cooling if it wasn't that easy. Pick quiet fixed speed fans and itbis as quiet under load as it is at idle. Loudest thing in my antecedents threehundred case is the video card fan. Otherwise a noctua cooler or freezer 7 pro.

The H50 is rather pointless IMHO. It only moves the heat about 5", so you still have to have a 120mm fan in the case. Why not save money and get a 120mm tower cooler that doesn't have a pump to break down?

^ My thoughts also. Yes, the H50 is an "easy-to-use" version of water-cooling, but it is only as good as the heat-exchange sink/fan and its location - which is still a standard fan inside the case. So, as mfenn points out, this can be done just as well and at less expense with a tower sink + quiet fan.

What's the noisiest part of your current system?

For my desktop, it's the Hitachi hdd (when it's running), then next is the psu, then the stock heatsink fan.

If I had to do it again I'd go SSD, quieter psu and quieter heatsink. For storage space beyond the SSD, I'd use a NAS that is located elsewhere.
