Ok, I know next to nothing about Rave/Trance music but I'm trying to put together a CD. I need stuff that they would play at raves and such. So far I have:

Darude - Sandstorm
Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (DJ Tiesto remix)

and that's about it. :(

There are plenty of cds that you could go out and buy, and plenty of mixes made by professional djs that you can download, legally, for free if you just look. I know for a fact there are a couple up on suprnova that are legal downloads.

Any recommendations? I know nothing about trance except that I like Sandstorm (But I think that is mainly because my friend had it on repeat with winamp visualizations going on a big screen looped for 8 hours straight back in my party days :p).

Go on suprnova and grab some mixes from parties or radio shows, they're legal, usually the ones with dates behind them and 90% of the time they're better than any mix cd you'll buy in a store. Theres so many different styles of trance and house, I'm not quite sure what you would like, since I'm not too into trance or house. Tiesto seems to get a lot of attention, Josh Wink is pretty good... Blank and Jones, Paul Van Dyk.... theres a lot out there but those should get you started.

Not really all "trance", but I suggest you check out these cd's. Some are a couple years old, but they are good and got my friends interested in it. Also check out psy or goa trance too.

Sasha - Xpander
Sasha - Airdrawndagger
DJ Tiesto - Nyana
DJ Tiesto - Just Be
Tom Middleton - Sound of the Cosmos (3 disc)
Paul van Dyk - Seven Ways
Paul van Dyk - Out There and Back
Paul van Dyk - Reflections
Tunnel Trance Force - Vol.14 - (CD1) - Moon Mix
Blank & Jones stuff is usually good

Also check out Essential Mixes on p2p. Good ones are Tiesto from 9/9/2001 and Tom 'Jedi' Middleton from 5/13/2001.

I'm also into ambient as well. If that interests you, check out:

Aes Dana - Season 5 (Visit Psyshop for others.)

For break-beat:

DJ Icey - Different Day
Simply Jeff - Breakbeat Massive

Also listen online to www.di.fm (Anything here mixed my Morlack is awesome) and www.somafm.com.
