I currently have 2 computers. I have a laptop and I have a desktop, I have noticed something lately. I use my laptop more then I use my desktop, my desktop has been just sitting. I dont really play games on my desktop any more because I am F!@#$%^ tired of spending tons of money every 6 months for a new video card. My laptop can do everything that my desktop can do, maybe not as fast but its certainly acceptable. My laptop has junky SIS Mirage 2 graphics whieh bench a wopping 1200 in 3D Mark01. Here is the decision.

I have been thinking about replacing my desktop PC with an Xbox360. The Xbox360 will blow away my PC with games and will last a much longer time before becomming obsolete, I mean I can play videos, MP3's, JPG's on the 360 and heck you can even download game demo's on the 360. I have an 17Inch LCD monitor for my desktop I could use for the 360 and even my Logitech Z-560's. I would looze no functionality because my laptop has good specs. I would not be able to play PC games any more but I would have the 360 to use.

Desktop Specs - In my SIG
Laptop specs - Turion ML-32 Processor, 80GB 7200RPM HDD, 8X DVDRW drive dual layer, onboard sound and video, 512X2 DDR PC2700, 15.4 Inch Wide Screen.

For storage I have an 250GB WDSE16 in a Vantec Nexstar 3 with ESATA.

Please tell me what you all would do.

So you spend money every 6 months to ugprade your video card and yet at the same time be satisfied with a mirage?

he's satisfied because he is not gaming on it. if the laptop is all you need for your computer usage, and the desktop is simply sitting there for games now... why not sell it and put the earnings towards your xbox? the only thing I can think of is no mouse+keyboard for first person shooters...

Keep the desktop. A console will never live up to the awesome gaming experience that is PC gaming. There is no substitute for a keyboard and mouse in strategy and FPS games. I bought an XBOX and the only use it ever gets are when more than 3 people are over (the amount of game worthy rigs at my disposal :p) and we need a way to have everyone playing something.

Indeed, upgrading IMO is best the way I do it. Every year, upgrade graphics. Every two years, add RAM and/or change the CPU.

AMD Athlon XP 2500+//nVIDIA GeForce FX 5700//512 MB Kingston PC3700
Bought a 6800GT and traded the RAM, CPU, and some useless junk for a Mobile 2600+ and 1 GB of PC3200 (OCZ)
Threw it all in an HTPC box and got an Athlon 64 X2, 2 GB of RAM, and a 7800GT.

How much did that stuff cost?

i am considering a similar move
i have several computers in the house for internet and school work and basic stuff. but with game consoles, the computers don't all have to be high end/high end video. we don't play FPS or anything anyway. the only game we have bought in the past year that needs "good" graphic card is AOE III

maybe i should just buy the $179 lindows computers from Fry's for the kids/wife and get an xbox360

I could get 5 years out of the 360 before M$ releases another console. My desktop is an endless pit of money, the spending does not stop. I compulsively upgrade my desktop and its hurting. My GF does not like it either.

I could always get rid of my laptop and get a 360 haha.

Keep the laptop, the desktop, AND buy the 360.

Oh who am I kidding? Don't ask me...I'm a packrat...I keep EVERYTHING!

No I have not. I just want to see what other people would do if they were in my shoes. I dont have any money to buy a 360 at the moment.

Would it be a good idea to do that but then build a new desktop within a year. What do you think of my desktop?
