Bought this for my wife, and she hates the muti-touch elan touchpad.

here main gripe is the 2 finger scrolling its just not as accurate as her old touchpad side scroll area.

Is there a way to remove elantech touch pad driver and instead use the synaptics one?

All I want is a basic touchpad and assign a scroll area on the side. The elantech touchpad software lets you disable a lot of the multitouch features but has no option to assign a scroll area.

Love the laptop but the touchpad is really a weak area, its not very slippery and not smooth as a regular touchpad. The sensation is like touchpad made of glass where your fingers get stuck and stutters specially when you have a littler moisture.

help, she is actually asking for a trackball (uses laptop on the bed)

thanks.

I know some people have installed linux on this laptop so hopefully there are other driver I can use.

only one driver available at ASUS site

A laptop on the bed is bad news if it is actually on the bed. That blocks the cooling vents. Solution - put it on a hard tray. Then use a trackball or mouse and turn the darn touchpad off.

well its actually on her stomach, we have one of those cushioned lap top trays (has good vents). She puts the lap top on the floor after she is done.

Would really like to avoid trackball and would just like the convenience of a simple track pad with scroll area.

I just got one of these, and I agree the the touchpad is not great, but I found that after turning the "scroll speed" way down on the multitouch scrolling, it's actually quite responsive and accurate.

I did, however, have to turn off the "tap to click" feature because normal mouse movements would cause clicks all the time.

2.5 years late though. Probably is spamming his site for the clicks, just doing a good job of finding relevant threads to necro.
