1991 Bronco 5.8Liter (351 Windsor) 4x4 Current=13mpg

I changed the air filter, spark plugs, wires, rotor, fuel filter, PCV Valve, and have proper tire pressure. Any other suggestions? I keep it fully unloaded and go easy start and stop driving.

dont drive it like a race car. I gained 5mpg just by going 65 instead of 75 on the freeway.

"8 miles to the gallon. downhill with a tailwind."

theres not much you can do. well....maybe a transmission rebuild and a new rear end. what kinda gears you running? 4.10's?

Don't know. Seems to be geared pretty much stock

I traded down from a 2002 Honda Accord (30mpg), so I am not used to this "let's stop at the pump twice a week" bull crap.

Honestly, I'm starting to believe that all the tips on getting better gas mileage are bunk. I drive a 1995 Geo Prizm, stick, with a 1.8L 115HP engine. Not even comparable to yours, I know, but here's the thing. No matter how I drive, I get the same gas mileage. When I first got the car (used with 85000 miles on it), I shifted around 2500 or 3000 RPM, and I got around 28 MPG. Now I generally shift at 4000 RPM while driving fairly aggressively, and I still get 28 MPG. A friend of mine with an automatic Neon says that he gets the same gas mileage no matter how he drives, and he drives like a bat out of hell (at least as much as a Neon can, anyway :p).

If you want better gas mileage, get something with a smaller engine that weighs less and has better aerodynamics than a tool shed. :D

tool shed is an understatement. try broad side of a barn. go back to the 2002 accord. granted, you might not feel as confortable around the huge cage of steel the ford has, but you wont be subsidizing the coffers of opec as much.

i get 30 in the city with my integra.

Kind of an odd thing about Fords, you could probably tow a speedbaot behind and carry around 4 people all the time, and still get 13 MPG.

Is it white?

Seriously, not much to do but maybe put in an electric engine fan for a 0.5 mpg increase or play with the gearing.

Try driving slower. (seriously) Aerodynamics are your enemy here - I find that in my jeep wrangler (lifted and also approximately shaped like a brick) I am fine up until about 55-60 mph. Anything past that, and I am using exponentially more gas to maintain a given speed.

And for a fun party trick (not a safe party trick) I found that holding 65 mph in 5th gear would take about 1/2 pedal... but if I drafted behind big semi trucks, I could maintain a distance of 15-20 feet behind them, with just the SLIGHTEST pressure on the accelerator. (soft top wind noise also decreased SIGNIFICANTLY when I hit the "sweet spot" in airflow)

I wish my jeep had one of those real time MPG displays, was probably getting 50 mpg. I'd be willing to bet that I could drive from Florida to D.C. on a single tank of gas that way. hahaha.

you have a 351... 13 sounds about right... sorry, there isn't much us V8 guys can do to help it... if you need any help on making it worse though... look me up... Gears, Stall, Supercharger, you name it I can tell you how to get to single digits ;)

You might want to purchase a can of BG Fuel Injector cleaner. This stuff runs about $18 - $22 a can and you add it to a full tank of gasoline. You can usually find it for sale in the parts departments of car dealers. This cleaner will be very effective at cleaning up your 11-year-old injectors and may bump your gas mileage up by a few MPG. This is the stuff that Pat Goss is always pimpin' on his MotorWeek radio and TV shows.

I had a 360 V-8 that got 5mpg but could probably pull a house off the foundation. :D

You also might go all synthetic oil, tranny, front & rear axles, engine. Keep your tire pressure @ the high range, maybe go with a street tread.

K&N air filter would help a little too.

I've always had a full sized van & when I drove from one corner of South Dakota to the other for college breaks, I'd try to optimize my mpg, I could get around 20 keeping the speed down & with some of the above mods

increase tire pressure 2-3 psi more than recommended; may not be safe in an suv though :)

I have a friend who suggested "the tornado". $70 at a local Napa dealer. Puts a spin on the fuel/air mixture and atomizes the particles better for a horsepower/fuel economy gain. Anyone ever tried this?

keep your rpms down. i did that, and realized a significant increase in mileage. it really does work.
