Help me in closing in on my 1st digital camera

I?m thinking about getting the Fuji 6800Z now that they are available in the $4-500 range. I want a quality point & shoot with great color for home & fun.

Right now, I?m not interested in professional grade camera tweaking features. But that could change.

I've read a lot of reviews and so far the 6800 looks like my best choice for the money.

Anyone have one of these? Comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd at least give the Minolta S304 a looksee.

Also, the FinePix 2600 as well.

Ya know, I didn't even look at Minolta. The 4X Optical zoom looks inviting but it dosen't look pocket size.

Canon s30 is where it's at. I just got one and it is awesome!

Dell.com for $499 - 10% - $25 = $424 shipped less than 2 weeks ago. (minus 3% ebates on top of that)

On this site the s30 is rated as highly recommended and the Fuji is only rated as above average.

I'm keeping an eye on this topic in case somebody mentions a $450.00 camera with better reviews than that Sony S75. I haven't made the purchase yet, so there's still time to change my mind. And the media it uses is at the bottom of my priority list. I'd rather spend less than more, but that seems like the best bang for the buck... so far!

Edit: I'll save those links fatbaby, thanks, but I can't buy a damn thing right now. I'm so far in debt my eyes are spinning! When my ship comes in (soon I hope) I WILL own a digital camera... finally!

I like the Sony S75's lens and features also. I just don't like their proprietary memory and other stuff. It seams that they always have to try and lock you into their products.


OTOH,

From what I have read, Fuji is suppose to have non-existent tech support.


I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that the 3+ megapixel market is a crowed one.

Here is something to give important thought to, how important is size? I don't usually carry my camera around because it's too big to fit in my pocket. If I was to get a camera today I'd get one of the little canons that fit in my pocket.

Good suggestions and points. I'll try to handle all those cameras before I make a final decision.

I always remember the advice I got 12 years ago when I was shopping for my first camcorder. The primary function of the camcorder is to shoot a quality picture. All the bells and whistles take a back seat to that.

The next concern is having one convenient to use, as Freejack2 alluded to. Doesn't matter how good the picture is if you don't use it! Fitting in a pocket is all well and good, but how still can you hold it for the shot? Some of those tiny ones would be out of the question for me. I need a solid handle to grab or the shot will be a blur. As long as it's the size of a normal SLR, I can live with it.
