Help me identify this spider outside my door

It's between a nickel and a quarter size wise, is more hairy than shiny, and is dark brown/black. I live in Kentucky, and have looked at spiders common in KY and OH but none really fit the profile exactly. Here he is all bunched up, but the flash kinda screwed it up

edit: I'd say it's an orb weaver variety

hrm, i found a pic here that is much better, but can't find much info on it, supposedly some kinda barn spider, scientific name is neoscona hentzi

yeah it's a garden orb web spider,
