What breed do you think the puppy in this picture is?

We recently inherited a puppy from the humane shelter (a long story) but we have absolutely no idea what breed she is. Based on coat we are thinking either Rotweiler or Black and Tan hound. I don't have a camera or else I would have an updated picture. The loldog picture above is an exact copy of our dog.

Otherwise.

Here is a picture of our actual dog when she was littler. TextText

Most definitely Rottweiler. Looks a little thinner in the face than some puppy pictures I've seen, but could just be feeding habits. But if its from the shelter, it's likely got a little mixed in. Definitely dominant Rottweiler genes.

I don't care how long the story is with the humane society, you should have asked what breed it is when u were adopting it

They don't know.

I actually started a thread about it when we first got her. It was originally only going to be for a few weeks and needless to say my gf feel in love.

Yeah, after looking at puppy pics of rotties and dobies, they're are difficult to tell apart. I'm still going to guess rottie, mostly because I see more of those mixes than dobie mixes at shelters. Also, I think a dobie's puppy face would still be a bit longer than the dog's in the top pic.

Should be able to tell by the markings and head.

Doberman puppy

That looks like a very young, maybe only 2-3 month old puppy. The OPs pictures look like they are probably of similar age, due to the sheer tiny size both are.

As they age, even as only slightly larger puppies, the difference in snout becomes more apparent. But I'd definitely say it's a Rottie in the OP, has the signature shorter snout and coat style, Dobermans have that smooth coat (of course, mixed breed puppies, one never knows what you'll get in terms of coat, or any characteristic for that matter.

We have a Lab/Australian Shepherd mix. Pick a part of the body and it could be either breed. Her litter mates were adorable, puffy fur-balls, bear-like in face. Our girl has the smooth Lab coat and thin face.

I just looked up the three different breeds and it is amazing how similar their puppies look. I am guessing this is something that is just going to be decided whenever she grows up ...

Black and Tan Coonhound puppies

Doberman Puppy

Rottweiler Puppy

Yeah, even with that, I'm still thinking it's dominant Rottweiler, but not full blooded.

You said the two photos in the OP were of the dog when it was littler, got one with it any bigger? The differences in the three breeds will rapidly become apparent even in the few 4 months I bet. The ears are one (natural for doberman, obviously, not the altered style) thing that stand out as obvious, and make me say for sure it's not a Coonhound. If it's a mixed breed it could be either a Rottie or Doberman, but I'm leaning more towards Rott.

From those two pics I say definitely Rot but we need more of the puppy's stance.
