Help me identify this 10-pin connector (dell laptop)

Hello all,

I'm trying to extend the power switch from an old Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. I'm putting together a touchscreen jukebox and I need to be able to turn this thing on without opening it up to access the computer. And no, it doesn't support WOL.

The good news is that the PCB with the power button pops right out of the laptop with no problem. It's not connected to the mobo by a cable but, rather, a small 10-pin connector. What I'd love is to find a 10-pin cable which would allow me to simply place the power switch on the outside of my project.

The PCB with the power switch is part #: CN-09U742 A quick google search shows the entire PCB being sold on ebay as well as elsewhere on the net.

Here's a large photo, although blurry: http://www.1hideout.com/parts/laptopimages/101_1843.JPG

Here's another from an ebay auction: http://i1.ebayimg.com/07/i/001/19/dc/36ce_1.JPG

The connector is two rows of 5 pins and it seems to be 'keyed' with two offset 'bumps' in the plastic connector itself. I did some searches and found the "10 pin IDC" connector, but it seems to be too big (although I'm not 100% sure). But the connector I have is only about 1/2cm wide when measuring from pin 1 to 5 (and 6-10)

Anyway, I'm hoping that this isn't some completely proprietary connector and somebody here can help me out. Thanks

Hey there mr SHEiK,

I hadn't thought of a USB header cable. I don't have one on hand but in looking at googled pictures of a usb header connection, I think it's too big. Here is a photo of the connection I'm working with

You can see it's almost exactly 5mm from the first column of pins to the other end. It's small and the pins are tiny. Like I said, I don't have a USB header on hand, but I think it'd too big, although I'd love to be proven wrong on that. If somebody has a USB header and can measure from the first pins to the last ones, and tells me that it's 5mm, I'd be stoked!

Thanks
