Hi everyone
I'm a newbie to this OC thing. I'm wondering if anyone of you can help me overclock my XP 2100+
I've ordered an AMD XP 2100+, Abit NF7-S board and would like to overclock this baby to at least 2800+ or better. Can you tell me what kind of CPU fan I would need for this OC purpose? Thank you for your time.

Regards,
B.T

welcome to the forums

slk800 and a good fan (smart fan II) seem to work well for me

make sure you have a tbred B cuz otherwise it may be hard to hit 2800+

P.s hey.. seems like we have the same board... I think I will get the same memory that u have. Any suggestion where I can get a decent price for that type of DRAM? googlegear has it for

Corsair VS512MB400 512MB DDR400 PC3200 Value Select Memory Retail ***(Free 2nd Day)***
Lifetime Warranty
$92.00

Is this decent enougH?

yup, you got a throughbred B

get the heatsink and fan from here, great prices and service

the stuff you picked out from google is corsair value ram, which is ok but you'll be better off with the buffalo pc3200 from newegg, only $89.50. btw, people are getting 230 mhz off that ram

okies.. since you said it.. I will go ahead and get the buffalo memory(the 89.50$).. NOT LIFE TIME WARRANTY.. SHOULD I STILL GET IT?

I guess my CPU is T B.. not sure.. still unsure about this. It doesnt say in the Refurbish section... Hopefully it it since the model/serial #s are the same.

One last favor(hopefully this will be the last one lol) can you just tell me wat fan to get so I can get it right away because I have no clue which fan is good. Tried to look for the Smart Fan II, but i didnt see it. I must be blind.

Thanks so much for your help!

if i were you, i would get the non refurbished one. also, you can get the 1700+ at excaliberpc. you are guaranteed a 0310 XPMW (a notriously good overclocker). i have ordered 4 from them in the past and they all hit 2.4 Ghz. the chip runs like $68 i think

look here for the fans, looks like the smart fan II is out of stock. get the one with the "cool mod" if you dont mind paying another $5, otherwise get this

i would still go ahead and get the ram as this time next year we are all gonna be using DDR II anyway :)

CPU fan = case fan, in most cases. Just make sure that you get an appropriately sized fan to match the heatsink (80mm for SLK-800).

There will be a little tag on the CPU that shows if it's a B or A. The first group of letters on the second line of the tag will show it. It should say something like AIUHB for a B core.

WOw.. The "SK800" is 37.99 without tax/shipping handling charge yet. Besides that, I have to get a "80x25mm YS-Tech 48.5CFM / 36.9dBA 4-pin Case Fan (dual ball)" for Sale price: $7.99??

AM I mistaken or this is the right price? LoL.. That's like a 46$ fan... Someone please tell me that I'm dreaming.. haha

Yeah that's about right. My SLK-800 was around $40 shipped and I bought a $8 panaflo L1A fan. This is the high-end, low-noise solution air cooling though.

I will use the HOT CPU software to test these.. Is that a good idea? By the way, for the OC, all i have to do is go to the bios and increase the speed for the CPU from there right? What is a good start speed to OC?

i dont really know what hot cpu is but it is a good idea to run prime95 for 12-24 hours to check for stability.

yeah, just go into the bios and change the multipler and fsb i would aim for 200*10 for a start on stock voltage
