<<A7V and Duron 600, The multiplier can be 6-7 but no higher, even with 1.85 core. It's obviously not the proc cuz I've got it running with 7 mult. X 117 which is 819MHz. This is all with the stock HSF. (I've tried all core voltages) Some step I'm missing? Bad pencil trick? Oh yes, also I only have a 250W (probably not Athlon approv.) Power Supply.

2nd problem, ASUS probe is reporting 51-52 C temps no matter what I clock it at, nomatter what core Volage. Bad sensing from the a7v? I don't even know where that sensor is, under (in the middle of) the socket? Doesn't sound too accurate.
>>

I posted this earlier, here's the update. I re-penciled and now it don't work at all. I read some other post and I think it may be because I used an automatic pencil, bad lead. I'll retry it but can somebody run me through the exact process and exact settings on my A7V, the manual sucks bigtime. Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding.

It's a rev. 1.02 I've got whatever BIOS it comes with default.

I can't answer the overclockign questions, but as far as temps go, all socket-a boards are bad at reporting temps.

This could be your problem....

it seems like the bridges could be crossed. what u are describing is a common symptom of that..

do what bonkers mentioned! use a loctite rear defogger kit.

Ground00, and all,
Believe you are chip limited, not L1 bridge/s open, except perhaps the one connected to .5X "Adder".... here's the logic.

There's a simple algorithm for the FSB Multiplier 4 bit code/s, and each L1 bridge connects mobo bios/hardware to one bit of FSB Multiplier circuits.

TotalX = 3X base + Sum Of "Adders" on signals/bits HI...(except add 8X to TotalX = 3X thru 4.5X...to get 11X thru 12.5X)

L1 bridges L to R connect mobo overriding circuits to .5X, 1X, 2X, 4X "Adders". So we can write..........

Default 6X = 3X base + 1X +2X "Adders" set HI by AMD....and...

Successful 7X = 3X base + 4X "Adder" set HI by Ground00 via mobo etc.

So we see quite clearly that mobo was able to "turn off" the 1X and 2X Adders, and "turn on" the 4X Adder...which means that the 3 rightmost L1 bridges had to be closed, otherwise the mobo/bios/hardware/whatever could not over-ride/change the default 6X settings of .5X/LO, 1X/HI, 2X/HI, 4X/LO. (Of course we've not proven anything about the .5X L1 bridge).

So suggest you try 7.5X at 100mhz FSB to check out the .5X L1 bridge, if you have not already done so. If NG then redo the leftmost L1 bridge, right??

Also try 8X at 100mhz...should do it as you're already doing 817.

8X = 3X base + 1X + 4X Adders set HI by AMD and you...worked at 6X and 7X, so should work at 8X at 100mhz FSB. Then if .5X L1 is closed and you can't get 850 = 8.5X100, has to be the chip...if Vcore is maxed out....right??? (Or maybe the power supply??)

Reset to suit after all done...let us all know what you find.

http://members.nbci.com/candjac/index.htm Duron OC article explains all this in greater detail with marked up pics and circuit diagrams.

bump, it's gotten worse. Right now my only hope is the crap power supply cuz I erased the bridges completely and set all the jumpers to normal and it still won't boot. What's the deal it was working 2 days ago??

Here's the settings...

All L1 bridges open, DSW switches to OFF, all Multiplier switches to OFF. Core voltage jumpers are all on the right which is CPU default and maybe JumperFree too (Printed on board and paper manual disagree here.) Jumperfree (JEN) jumper is set to 2-3 (jumperfree ON) I have also tried it with Jumperfree mode OFF and voltage set to 1.75 and FSB 100 and Multipliers 6 or 7 to no avail.

The fans turn on and the lights (on CD drives and Power lites) light up. But after a flicker of HDD activity, nothing changes. No video, no beep, no nothin'.

I've tried it barebones: power supply, 128MB Mushkin HSDRAM, Duron 600, and Matrox G400. wtf's the deal!! Did I kill something? I've been using a static wristband deal and handling things carefully, I haven't done anything extreme(dangerous), I don't think.

Please help, remember that I suspect the Power Supply right now. Any suggestions on further diagnostics? Can I check amperage with a multimeter?

Had the same problem with my A7V133 last night and for a part of the morning... My cure was remove the cpu out of the board & remove the battery from the board for about 3-5min. Then reinstall and all was fine... Now look at my sig. I have learned a thing or two since this morning... BTW Good luck...

It lives!! I re pencilled a few times, the iffy-ness of the pencil trick is probably making things weird-out occasionally. I've gotten it to 848 (113*7.5) @ 1.7v It still doesn't like 8x multipliers (or 8.5, 9x is probably too much for the chip& current cooling)

((Did I mention that I've run the FSB at 119? =PC 159 Mushkin RAM Good little board, good little memories.)

Now I can't make the voltage work over 1.70, usually only 1.65 I'll fix that. I've just flashed 1004c onto it, maybe I get even newer than that if it's worth it.

Don't worry, I still plan to get a 350W+ power supply and Locite defogger(maybe today), and install the peltier I have (when I get/make the right clips.) thanks for your help people.
