Can anyone help me with what i want to do here. Someone posted a deal for this Sharp 5.1 Dolby Digital . I bought it today and when we move in i want to hook this up to everything else.
For our Dorm
My cousin has a 20" Awia Flat screen (model TVF2000 here TVF2000 Manual ), we want to hook up his PS2 (to use as DVD player), my altec lansing ACS 48 ( ACS 48 ), my cousins Yamaha speakers ( YST-MS50W Yamaha YST ) and my computer, Which has a Live Value! card. I know this is alot, but can it happen? Whats the best way to do it

Write stuff down first.

I would write out each component I have on a seperate piece of paper (or with its own segment of the paper) and figure out what each of its input and outputs jacks are and what they are there for. Each jack throughout the entire system/network of devices should get its own letter.

Playstation

A Output a/v
B Output fiber

etc, etc

Then I would prioritize each device (actually i think i would do this first that way the closer the jack is to letter A the more important it is)

After that just match everything up according to where you need it to go. Example A goes to E and B goes to L.

After that you shouldnt have to do any more thinking, just follow the map and it should web together.

You may have to run the Playstation outs to the TV and then run the TV outs to the computer if you only have one input jack on the sound card. You will just have to have (or maybe not) the TV on in order for the playstation audio channel to the soundcard to be complete. If you want to setup two sets of speakers, you may have to get a splitter and attach it to the line out of the sound card.

I would make the list, even more so if you arent always going to have the components all right there to do the planning. The list will help you visualize all of your options.

Locutus4: If the receiver has video switching, you could input video and audio from the console and computer into the receiver and output the video to the TV and use the receiver to switch components. If the receiver does not have video switching, you will have to input video and audio from the console and computer to the TV (it has two sets of inputs, one front and one rear). Then output audio to the receiver and use the TV to switch components. If the TV doesn't have a fixed audio output, then you will be stacking preamp gain and introducing more noise, though it shouldn't be too severe. Just be careful with the input level. Another thing is the amplified speakers, if the receiver doesn't have preamp outs, then you will once again be stacking gain stages. If the Sharp speakers aren't too crappy, then they will probably have the best match between themselves.
