Ok, I work for a company with about 10-15 japanese takeaway shops and restaurant all over the place. Now, my boss is thinking to find a better way to get reports from these shops.. because at the moment, they just send hardcopy of hand-written report by fax.. and as you would know, they are not very reliable way to transfer vital informations, not to mention it's hard to read.
So..
He's thinking to get a cheap (like P100 - P200) notebook for each shop and get them to type in the report and send it by email or... even by web.
He contacted the web application software company to get everything organized...
Like.. web-based reporting using a web server (to be built on a existing PC).. and automate reporting system by connecting to MS Excel or our Accounting software (MYOB).
I don't know.. they quoted a lot of $$$ for this job which includes prices for all the hardwares and software licences.
I should think there must be a cheaper way to do this...
How hard can it be to use a lil web script (mind you I know not much about no programing) to get each shop manager to type in the report and send to.. DB.. then use some sort of software to connect the DB and MYOB or Excel.. I don't know..
I can't believe I was kept out of the meeting with the application develp company.. just to answer phone calls.. stupid company..
The thing is.. they are asking for maintenance fee as well.
If we want to change a form, we would have to ask them everytime which is sily..really..silly I tell you.
Can someone with business experience help me to tell my boss some brilliant ideas?
And I think it's also silly to invest in ASDL for the internet connection for our office.
I mean wouldn't it be better to have everything arranged in a hosting company?
There is not many people who can maintain a web server.. in this office.
Yes.. I know.. dial up is a thing of a past.
But these days, there are only 2 people working in the office... nad we hardely use the web..
Although.. we would need better connection to download all the information...which shouldn't be more than 15-30 forms a day.. shouldn't be a problem..
