I use MS Word a lot and the default white background for documents makes my eyes bleed after looking at it as long as I do. They give you the option to check the box for "Blue Background White Text" in the Tools-Option-General Tab, but this is not satisfactory either.
I can also change the color of the default document by changing the Windows color scheme in the Display Settings and the document background will be whatever color I've set the Window color to. But I want a black background and setting the Window color to black doesn't look so good in other applications, like Explorer. So I'll need to be able to set it within MS Word only.
I also know that I can change the background color by clicking on Format-Background and selecting the color, or Format-Themes and selecting a Theme with a background color or image. But as soon as you do this it switches you to Web View and the background color preferance can only be seen in Web View; it's back to the default window color (white by default, or blue if you checked the box for blue bg) when you switch over to Normal View or Print Layout. I primarily work using the Print Layout View so that I can set the zoom level to Page Width and see the page breaks. You can't do this in Web View so setting a black background color through this method is also unacceptable since it can only work for Web View.
Before I give up and just chalk this up as another MS Word annoyance and then settle for the Blue Background White Text, I figured I would toss this out there and see if anyone knows of any other possible solutions. Perhaps a registry hack?
I know how to make use of a hex editor if I'm given instructions on which offset to go to and what values to change. Perhaps a hack could be made so that when you select the box for Blue Background it actually sets it to Black instead. Same with the font -- I want R:137, G:166, B:205 on a black background.
If anyone can help me solve this my extremely photosensitive eyes will thank you!
